The Position:

Position General Summary:

The Instructional Specialist, Florida Scholars Academy, plays a critical role in supporting instructional staff and ensuring the successful implementation of academic programs. Working in close collaboration with the Instructional Leader, this position provides operational, instructional, and developmental support to instructors and students, contributing to the achievement of program goals and compliance with state and institutional standards.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Mentor assigned instructors on best practices and performance standards aligned with Florida Virtual School (FLVS).

  • Serve as a liaison between instructors and the Instructional Leader to ensure instructional consistency and quality.

  • Assist in monitoring and supporting the implementation of curriculum and literacy initiatives.

  • Identify training and performance gaps; deliver supplemental support and escalate ongoing concerns to the Instructional Leader.

  • Support the effectiveness of training programs by providing feedback and assisting with implementation.

  • Participate in coaching and mentoring activities to promote professional growth among instructional staff.

  • Assist in reviewing student progress reports and performance data to identify areas of concern.

  • Support compliance with state progress monitoring and accountability measures.

  • Help ensure alignment with state-mandated assessments and testing protocols, including Florida Standards and GED testing.

  • Collaborate with student services teams to support transcript evaluation, course placement, MTSS interventions, IEP development, and transition planning.

  • Facilitate communication between instructors, students, families, and other stakeholders to promote student success.

  • Assist the Instructional Leader in planning, organizing, and reviewing instructional activities and staff performance.

  • Support academic initiatives and special projects as directed by the Superintendent or Regional Director.

  • Help manage resources, coordinate meetings, and maintain efficient work habits to meet professional obligations.

  • Model ethical and professional behavior in all interactions.

  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Demonstrate respect, reliability, and accountability in all responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college/university.

  • Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate in content area assigned; endorsements and industry certifications as required by Florida Department of Education.

  • Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate with Educational Leadership endorsement, preferred.

Experience:

  • One-year of successful teaching experience within subject area required OR successful completion of an FLVS instructional internship.

  • Three-year successful teaching experience within subject area preferred OR successful completion of an FLVS instructional internship, preferred.

  • Operational knowledge of the Internet and Web-related technologies.

  • Frequency of travel: Occasional travel is required for meetings, training, and conferences; location may vary and may require overnight stays.
