Located in the heart of Independence, Louisiana, Mater Dolorosa Catholic School serves students in PK3 through 8th grade and provides a faith-centered education rooted in Catholic values and academic excellence.

The 3rd Grade Teacher serves as the primary instructor for a self-contained classroom and is responsible for teaching all core academic subjects, including:
• Religion
• English Language Arts
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies
The teacher will create a positive, engaging, and faith-filled classroom environment that supports student achievement while fostering a love of learning and personal responsibility.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Catholic Identity:
• Model and promote Catholic teachings and values
• Integrate faith throughout daily instruction and classroom activities
• Participated in school Masses, prayer services, retreats, and faith formation opportunities
• Support the mission and philosophy of Catholic education
Instruction and Learning:
• Plan and deliver standards-based lessons aligned with diocesan and state curriculum requirements
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
• Utilize assessment data to guide instruction and monitor student growth
• Maintain high expectations for student achievement and behavior
• Foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills
Classroom Management:
• Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and respectful learning environment
• Implement school-wide policies and procedures consistently
• Promote positive student behavior and character development
Communication and Collaboration:
• Maintaining regular communication with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities
• Collaborate with administration, faculty, intervention staff, and support personnel
• Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field
• Current Louisiana Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification
• Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum and instructional practices
• Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills
• Commitment to the mission of Catholic Education
Preferred:
• Elementary Education certification
• Previous elementary teaching experience
• Practicing Catholic preferred, but not required
