POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the School Leadership Team, the Instructional Coach is responsible for building teacher effectiveness and increasing student achievement through job-embedded coaching, implementation of the NIET Teaching and Learning Standards Rubric, data-driven decision making, and high-quality professional learning. The Instructional Coach supports the implementation of Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) priorities, school improvement goals, and the NIET Educator Effectiveness System through continuous coaching, cluster facilitation, instructional monitoring, and leadership development.
The Instructional Coach works collaboratively with school leaders, teachers, and system personnel to ensure consistent implementation of high-quality instructional practices that lead to measurable gains in student learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING AND TEACHER DEVELOPMENT
- Serve as a primary instructional coach for assigned teachers through ongoing coaching cycles aligned to the NIET Educator Effectiveness System.
- Conduct regular classroom observations utilizing the Louisiana Educator Rubric to identify strengths and areas for growth.
- Provide timely, specific, evidence-based feedback designed to improve instructional practice and student outcomes.
- Develop individualized coaching plans aligned to teacher growth goals, Professional Growth Plans (PGPs), and evaluation outcomes.
- Model effective instructional strategies, co-plan lessons, co-teach, and demonstrate best practices in classrooms.
- Support teachers in implementing Louisiana Student Standards and high-quality instructional materials (HQIM).
- Build teacher capacity to utilize rigorous, standards-aligned instructional practices that promote student engagement and achievement.
- Support novice and developing teachers through targeted mentoring and instructional support.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING LEADERSHIP
- Facilitate weekly NIET Cluster Meetings utilizing the NIET Five-Step Cluster Cycle:
- - Analyze student work and data.
- - Identify instructional needs.
- - Learn and model effective strategies.
- - Plan for implementation.
- - Monitor and reflect on results.
- Develop and maintain the Cluster Long-Range Plan aligned to school improvement priorities and student achievement goals.
- Coordinate and facilitate professional learning experiences that are aligned to identified teacher and student needs.
- Monitor implementation of strategies introduced during Cluster Meetings and professional development sessions.
- Support teachers in translating professional learning into classroom practice.
- Foster collaborative professional learning communities focused on continuous improvement.
OBSERVATION, FEEDBACK, AND EDUCATOR EFFECTIVENESS
- Conduct formal and informal observations in alignment with system and LDOE educator evaluation requirements.
- Collect and analyze instructional evidence using the Louisiana Educator Rubric.
- Assist administrators with teacher evaluation processes as assigned.
- Support teachers in setting, monitoring, and achieving Professional Growth Plans (PGPs) and Student Learning Targets (SLTs).
- Maintain accurate records of coaching interactions, observation data, and teacher growth progress.
- Utilize observation trends to inform school-wide professional learning and instructional priorities.
DATA ANALYSIS AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
- Lead teachers in the analysis of student achievement data, formative assessments, benchmark assessments, and student work samples.
- Support the development and implementation of data-driven action plans to address student learning gaps.
- Monitor progress toward school, grade-level, and classroom achievement goals.
- Assist teachers in utilizing progress-monitoring data to inform instructional decisions.
- Support intervention and acceleration efforts to ensure equitable outcomes for all students.
- Collaborate with teachers and leaders to identify trends, monitor implementation, and adjust instructional practices based on evidence.
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
- Serve as an active member of the school's Instructional Leadership Team.
- Collaborate with school leaders to implement school improvement plans and strategic priorities.
- Support the implementation of LDOE academic priorities and accountability initiatives.
- Assist with planning, monitoring, and evaluating school-wide instructional improvement efforts.
- Use instructional and achievement data to inform continuous improvement processes.
- Support the development of leadership capacity among teachers and emerging teacher leaders.
- Participate in leadership meetings, professional learning, and system initiatives as required.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor.
Professional Development:
While the Instructional Coach is expected to come with a high level of educational knowledge, they will be allowed to work with other UVA personnel and master teachers to enhance their skills and provide their teachers with only the best instructional interventions and strategies. In some cases, mentor teachers will also attend selected in-service training sessions.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching
