The undergraduate-only serving Chemistry and Biochemistry Program is home to faculty with specializations in a broad range of fields, including physical, organic, analytical, inorganic, and biochemistry. The ACS-accredited B.S. Chemistry program and the ASBMB-accredited B.S. Biochemistry program are characterized by personalized education, small class sizes, innovative teaching, strong research mentoring, and valuable student-faculty interactions. Instructional faculty play a critical role in the program for teaching, pedagogy, advising, and service. In addition, instructional faculty have the opportunity for promotion to associate and full professor, are senate-eligible, and have full votes at both the program and college levels.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach four chemistry courses per semester within the Schmid College of Science and Technology, including courses for chemistry majors and chemistry courses for other majors across the campus. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position that requires work to be performed in the State of California and has in-person teaching responsibilities and required on-campus availability at Chapman’s Orange campus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach Organic Chemistry lecture and laboratory courses.
  • Teach upper-division coursework, e.g. Medicinal Chemistry (BCHM 350), Advanced Organic Chemistry (CHEM 432). Current course descriptions are available at https://catalog.chapman.edu
  • Actively contribute to program activities and engage with the vibrant community of chemistry and biochemistry faculty and students.
  • Actively contribute as an integral member of Schmid College of Science and Technology to the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of our academic and degree programs.
  • Perform service to the unit, college, university, profession, and/or wider community as expected of an instructional faculty member.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemistry Education, or a related field conferred by the start date.
  • Evidence of disciplinary expertise in organic chemistry and/or medicinal chemistry, including experience teaching these courses.
  • Evidence of effective teaching in higher education at the undergraduate level in STEM courses, including the use of evidence-based teaching practices.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. This position is subject to final budget approval. Benefits begin the month after the start of employment. The salary range for this Instructional Assistant Professor position is $78,000-$84,000.
