
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The primary responsibility for the Instructional Assistant is direct involvement with students with unique needs in the school setting. Job duties range from supporting students in the classroom and throughout the school building to assisting with functional and self management skills. This position will deal with parents, students and staff on a regular basis and will be expected to interact with others in a professional, friendly, and organized manner.
STARTING SALARY: $17/hr

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is protected from outside weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. There are no environmental hazards indicated for this position.
Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all classroom equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers, printers, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required.
Hours: This position is typically expected to work an average of 5.75 hours or less per day. No more than 180 days per year. Hours/days may be adjusted per the direct supervisor to assure adequate coverage to meet the demands of the school and job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Be capable of physically assisting students with disabilities as required in some possible assignments (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.).
