Job Description

OF POSITION:
The primary responsibility for the Instructional Assistant is direct involvement with students in the instructional setting. Services rendered by the instructional assistant shall be in classrooms during times of instruction. Instructional assistants may also help with the supervision of students during non�instructional activities. This position requires the person to be very flexible in accepting assigned tasks by their supervisor with a strong sense of teamwork needed. This position will deal with community members, parents, students and staff on a regular basis and will be expected to interact with these publics in a professional, friendly, and organized manner.

Starting Salary: $15.00/hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet all Indiana requirements as a highly qualified Instructional Assistant.. Two years of college or the equivalent is required in order to provide instruction to a student. A teaching license and/or educational training and experience is preferred.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Provide direct instruction to students with supervision of teacher
  2. Conduct instructional activities assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts
  3. A basic understanding of all Duneland curriculum at the assigned grade level
  4. Document student data when directed
  5. Attend meetings and maintain student data when directed
  6. Assist in classroom management
  7. Assist with the administration and scoring of student assessments
  8. Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
  9. Assist teacher with administrative records and preparation of required reports
  10. Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, and a friendly attitude and general guidance
  11. Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving student safety concerns and reporting those concerns to direct supervisor
  12. Assist in the supervision of students throughout school day
  13. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
  14. Attend after school functions when directed by principal
  15. Complete other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the building administrator or administrator designee

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is protected from outside weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. There are no environmental hazards indicated for this position.

Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all classroom equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers, printers, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required.

Hours: This position is typically expected to work an average of 5.9 hours or less per day. No more then 180 days per year. Hours/days may be adjusted per the direct supervisor to assure adequate coverage to meet the demands of the school and job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
