Description

The Joseph "Eddie" Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center is a 156-bed long term care facility located in
beautiful Hanson, Kentucky that is committed to serving Kentucky’s Veterans by fostering independence,
preserving dignity and providing compassionate care.

We are currently seeking a Institutional Recreation Leader I to join our Activities Department. Join our team
if you want to give back to those who have given so much for our Country.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Plans, coordinates and leads therapeutic recreational activities for assigned units.
  • Completes quarterly reviews on each resident to monitor their recreational needs.
  • Develops treatment plans to meet resident's individual needs and attends treatment team meetings.
  • Organizes and supervises recreational outings including supervision of residents and volunteers involved in outings.
  • Transports residents within the facility and drives a state vehicle to transport residents to outings and events.

Work involves considerable walking, stooping, bending, and lifting. Much mobility is required to monitor
resident care. Should be able to physically lift up to 50 lbs.

supported national background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment.

This position, in Hopkins county has an approved Locality Premium of $3.31 in compliance with 101 KAR 2:034 Section 9(1).

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, special education or a related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Experience in planned recreation, physical education, special education or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
NONE

Working Conditions

Typically works in an institutional or hospital facility. Typically work is of a moderate physical nature and often in an outdoor setting conducting recreational activities usually with hospital patients or inmates.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
