Key Responsibilities

Installation & Field Work

• Cut pavement slots using concrete saws according to engineered loop layouts and specifications.

• Install loop wire and sealant to industry standards ensuring proper depth, spacing, and insulation.

• Pull and terminate loop leads into cabinets.

• Install conduit and protective hardware as required.

• Perform site preparation including layout marking, traffic control setup, and cleanup.

Testing & Commissioning

• Conduct loop continuity, resistance, and inductance tests using multimeters and loop analyzers.

• Verify loop tuning and detector performance after installation.

• Troubleshoot loop faults such as opens, shorts, ground faults, or crosstalk.

• Document test results and installation details for project records.

Maintenance & Repairs

• Diagnose and repair damaged or malfunctioning loops.

• Replace sealant, wiring, or conduit as needed.

• Perform preventive maintenance on loop systems and related detection equipment.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all jobsite safety protocols, including PPE, traffic control, and equipment operation.

• Comply with local, provincial, and federal standards for roadway work and electrical installations.

• Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure safe operation of cutting and drilling equipment.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with project managers, traffic signal technicians, and construction crews.

• Communicate installation progress, issues, and material needs.

• Provide feedback to improve installation methods and project planning.

Required Skills

• Strong electrical troubleshooting ability.

• Proficiency with loop analyzers, multimeters, and detector tuning.

• Ability to manage crews and make field decisions independently.

• Deep understanding of loop geometry, spacing, and installation best practices.

• Familiarity with traffic signal systems, parking controls, or WIM systems.

Experience

• 3–7+ years installing or servicing inductive loops or related detection systems.

• Experience leading crews or managing field operations.
  

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with WIM sensors (piezo, quartz, BL, bending plate).

• Ability to interface with engineers and inspectors.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs.

• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and operate concrete saws for extended periods.

• Comfortable working near active roadways with proper safety controls.
