Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Installation & Field Work

  • Cut pavement slots using concrete saws according to engineered loop layouts and specifications.
  • Install loop wire and sealant to industry standards ensuring proper depth, spacing, and insulation.
  • Pull and terminate loop leads into cabinets.
  • Install conduit and protective hardware as required.
  • Perform site preparation including layout marking, traffic control setup, and cleanup.

Testing & Commissioning

  • Conduct loop continuity, resistance, and inductance tests using multimeters and loop analyzers.
  • Verify loop tuning and detector performance after installation.
  • Troubleshoot loop faults such as opens, shorts, ground faults, or cross‑talk.
  • Document test results and installation details for project records.

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Diagnose and repair damaged or malfunctioning loops.
  • Replace sealant, wiring, or conduit as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on loop systems and related detection equipment.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all jobsite safety protocols, including PPE, traffic control, and equipment operation.
  • Comply with local, provincial, and federal standards for roadway work and electrical installations.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure safe operation of cutting and drilling equipment.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with project managers, traffic signal technicians, and construction crews.
  • Communicate installation progress, issues, and material needs.
  • Provide feedback to improve installation methods and project planning.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of hand tools and construction practices.
  • Willingness to learn electrical concepts and loop theory.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and performing physical labor.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and operate concrete saws for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working near active roadways with proper safety controls.
