About the Position
The Inspector - Building provides highly skilled technical inspection services to ensure compliance with building codes and related ordinances. This position inspects buildings and appurtenances during construction to ensure compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, and/or zoning codes.

We Require
Two years of experience in building inspection, construction trades, or plan review
High school diploma or GED
Other Requirements
Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
Possession of one International Code Council (ICC) certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
We Also Value
Degree in Architecture, Building Safety Technology, Construction Practices, or related fields
Multiple ICC certifications for residential or commercial inspections or plans examiner experience
Job Contributions
Inspect residential dwellings, industrial and commercial buildings, swimming pools, and appurtenances in the process of construction, alteration, or repair for compliance with building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fuel gas, and fire codes
Explain to contractors, owners, and developers the code interpretation or requirements that have been missed
Communicate to the public and businesses, imparting the methods for correction of observed deficiencies or deviations from approved plans to determine and ensure compliance
Write field inspection reports and notices in a clear, concise, and accurate manner
Investigate complaints regarding unauthorized or unsafe building use or construction
Inspect mobile homes for installation, blocking, tie downs, skirting, utility hookups, and setbacks
Conduct final inspection prior to issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy and inspections related to temporary occupancy
Access data or information using a personal computer in order to input inspection data
Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or building plans and technical data/drawings to verify that construction complies with approved documents, including all related zoning case files
Investigate fire damage to existing structures and mobile homes
Working Conditions
This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked
Exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time
The maximum weight required to lift, push, pull, or carry is 50 pounds
Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
Requires some work at field locations with exposure to dust, construction and operational noise, strong odors, and uneven terrain. Field work may occur in all weather conditions, including extreme heat
Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel
Some inspections may require working at multiple stories above grade. Traveling from inspection to inspection in rural areas can require sitting for long periods of time
