Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Thurrock to assist with the appointment of an Inspection Team Leader, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay £133.44 - £175.78 per day

The Inspection Team Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership, supervision, and operational management of an inspection team working within housing licensing services. The role focuses on delivering high-quality property inspections across the private rented sector, ensuring compliance with housing standards and licensing conditions, and supporting improvements to rental property conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and support a team of Inspection Officers carrying out property inspections under housing licensing schemes.
  • Allocate, monitor, and prioritise workloads to ensure timely and effective service delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring on housing standards, including HHSRS, enforcement notices, and tenancy-related matters.
  • Oversee the quality, consistency, and accuracy of inspections carried out by the team.
  • Review and approve inspection reports, ensuring appropriate follow-up actions are identified and completed.
  • Undertake property inspections where necessary to assess compliance with licensing conditions and support enforcement activity.

Essentials

  • Relevant experience within housing enforcement, property inspections, environmental health, or housing licensing services.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, licensing schemes, and HHSRS.
  • Previous experience supervising or leading inspection, enforcement, or housing teams.
  • Strong understanding of private sector housing standards and housing legislation.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, or approving inspection reports and enforcement documentation.
