Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified Inspection Engineer holding valid API 510, API 570, and/or API 653 certifications to join our asset integrity team in Qatar. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing inspections of pressure vessels, piping systems, and aboveground storage tanks. This role ensures full compliance with API codes, coordinates with QA/QC and maintenance teams, and monitors corrosion mechanisms to maintain asset reliability in LNG or refinery environments.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection Planning & Execution

  • Develop, schedule, and execute detailed inspection plans for pressure vessels (API 510), piping systems (API 570), and aboveground storage tanks (API 653).
  • Perform internal and external visual inspections, thickness measurements, and non-destructive testing (NDT) assignments based on inspection plans.
  • Prioritize inspection activities based on risk-based inspection (RBI) outputs, corrosion loops, and remaining life assessments.
  • Coordinate shutdown/turnaround inspection activities to ensure timely completion without compromising safety or quality.

Compliance with API Standards

  • Ensure all inspection activities strictly adhere to API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspection Code), API 570 (Piping Inspection Code), and API 653 (Tank Inspection Code)
  • Determine appropriate inspection intervals, methods, and coverage levels per API code requirements.
  • Interpret code rules to make accept/reject decisions and recommend repair, alteration, or replacement as necessary.
  • Maintain inspection records and documentation in compliance with API and client-specific requirements.

Report Review & Corrective Actions

  • Review inspection reports, NDT results, and thickness data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Calculate corrosion rates, remaining life, and next inspection due dates using historical data.
  • Recommend corrective actions such as repair welding, clad overlay, patching (tanks), or replacement of degraded components.
  • Issue repair recommendations and follow up on execution to ensure compliance with applicable codes.

Coordination with QA/QC & Maintenance Teams

  • Work closely with QA/QC inspectors, NDT technicians, and maintenance planners to align inspection schedules with operational windows.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks, weekly coordination meetings, and pre-turnaround planning sessions.
  • Provide technical input for repair procedures, weld maps, and hydrostatic test plans.
  • Liaise with operations teams to ensure safe isolation and handover of equipment for inspection.

Corrosion & Degradation Monitoring

  • Monitor active and potential corrosion/degradation mechanisms including general corrosion, pitting, stress corrosion cracking (SCC), hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC), and high-temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA).
  • Review process parameters and chemical injection programs to assess impact on equipment integrity.
  • Recommend additional inspection techniques (e.g., CUI surveys, guided wave UT, EC, ACFM) based on damage mechanisms.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare final inspection reports, summary sheets, and exception reports for client and regulatory bodies.
  • Update asset integrity management systems with inspection findings and recommendations.
  • Flag critical anomalies immediately to engineering and operations management.

Requirements

Certification

  • API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector) – Mandatory
  • API 570 (Process Piping Inspector) – Mandatory
  • API 653 (Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector) – Highly preferred (at least one of the three required)

All certifications must be current and valid.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on inspection experience in the oil & gas sector
  • At least 2 years in LNG, refinery, petrochemical, or gas processing facilities (Qatar or GCC experience strongly preferred).
  • Proven experience in turnaround/shutdown inspections of vessels, piping, and tanks.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong working knowledge of API 510, 570, 653 codes and interpretations.
  • Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, and API 579 (Fitness-for-Service) is an advantage.
  • Understanding of NDT methods (UT, MT, PT, RT) and their application per API requirements.
  • Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms common in LNG/refinery service (wet HS, CO, sour service, CUI).

Soft Skills & Other

  • Excellent report-writing and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams (inspection, maintenance, operations, engineering).
  • Valid Qatar ID (QID) or ability to obtain Qatar work visa.
  • Willingness to work at height, in confined spaces, and in industrial plant environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • API 579 (Fitness-for-Service) certification or training.
  • CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI (welding inspector) certification.
  • NACE Level I or II (coating or corrosion) certification.
  • IRATA Rope Access certification (Level I or II).
  • Experience using inspection data management systems (e.g., PCMS, Meridiam, APM).
  • Valid Qatar driving license.
