Job Description

The Inside Sales Representative supports SMG’s sales organization by driving pipeline activity, managing inbound opportunities, and ensuring consistent follow-through across the sales process. This role partners closely with senior sales leaders to improve responsiveness, maintain pipeline momentum, and increase overall sales effectiveness.

This position is designed as an entry point into SMG’s commercial organization, providing exposure to client engagement, sales processes, and SMG’s service offerings across industries. The Inside Sales Representative will play a critical role in responding to inbound leads, advancing active opportunities, and ensuring accurate and timely updates within Salesforce.

Over time, this role develops the foundational skills required to progress into field-based or account-facing sales roles.

Key Responsibilities

1. Pipeline Support & Opportunity Advancement

  • Support sales leaders by managing and advancing active opportunities within Salesforce
  • Serve as a responsive point of contact for clients, maintaining continuity in communication and supporting ongoing relationships across assigned accounts
  • Follow up on proposals, contracts, client communications, and outstanding actions to maintain pipeline momentum
  • Ensure opportunities are progressing through defined sales stages in a timely manner
  • Track key deal activities, next steps, and client interactions

2. Inbound Lead Management

  • Respond to inbound leads and inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Qualify opportunities and route to appropriate sales leaders
  • Schedule introductory meetings and support early-stage client engagement
  • Ensure proper documentation and tracking of all inbound activity within Salesforce

3. CRM & Process Discipline

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in Salesforce, including accounts, contacts, and opportunities
  • Ensure consistency in data entry, activity tracking, and pipeline visibility
  • Support sales team adherence to defined processes and systems
  • Assist in preparing reports, summaries, and pipeline updates as needed

4. Sales Team Enablement

  • Support preparation of proposals, client materials, and follow-up communications
  • Coordinate internal resources to support active sales efforts
  • Assist in organizing sales activities, meetings, and client touchpoints
  • Improve overall responsiveness and efficiency of the sales team

5. Learning & Development

  • Develop foundational knowledge of SMG service lines (ProSolutions, VERO, SPP, Insights, SMG-U)
  • Gain exposure to sales processes, client conversations, and opportunity management
  • Build understanding of target industries including construction, industrial, and utilities
  • Progress toward increased ownership of client interactions and sales responsibilities over time

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Safety, or a related field preferred; Business or other relevant degrees considered (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent SMG professionally in client-facing interactions and written communications
  • Internship or early experience in construction, safety, or a commercial environment preferred
  • Strong interest in pursuing a career in sales, client engagement, or commercial operations
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) is a plus
  • Basic understanding of construction or industrial environments preferred

Physical Demands of the job may include: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Manual dexterity needed for typing and other repetitive tasks. Must be able to speak in an accurate and detailed manner on the phone or in person. Moving about long distances and uneven terrain; Ascending and descending stairs and ladders; Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period of time; Working in extreme weather; Being exposed to loud noises; Wearing personal protective gear correctly when required.
