Venture Dynamics is seeking skilled Inside Machinists to support Navy and commercial ship repair operations. The Inside Machinist performs precision machining, fabrication, and refurbishment of propulsion and auxiliary system components. Work is primarily shop-based with occasional support to shipboard repair activities as required.
Per diem may be available depending on contract requirements and travel distance.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate manual lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, boring mills, and drill presses
Perform turning, facing, threading, boring, and milling operations to tight tolerances (typically within .0005–.001 inches)
Determine proper tooling, speeds, and feeds based on material and machining requirements
Align and secure holding fixtures, attachments, accessories, and materials prior to machining
Read and interpret blueprints, NAVSEA technical drawings, and machining sketches
Machine and refurbish shafts, sleeves, bushings, valve seats, pump housings, and related components
Measure and verify dimensions using micrometers, Vernier calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, and bore gauges
Machine marine alloys including bronze, stainless steel, Monel, and HY-series steels
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience as an Inside Machinist or Manual Machinist in shipyard or heavy industrial environments
Strong proficiency operating manual lathes and milling machines
Ability to independently determine machining sequences, tooling, and tolerances
Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and specifications
Experience machining marine-grade materials and alloys
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Ability to obtain and maintain required base access credentials, including DBIDS
Ability to pass background screening and drug testing per customer requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Navy ship repair or availability-level work
Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items related to fabrication
OSHA 10 Maritime certification
Experience supporting portable machining or shipboard alignment verification
Additional Information
Work is performed primarily in machine shop and industrial shipyard environments supporting Navy and commercial ship repair operations. Occasional vessel access may be required to support measurement, fit-up verification, or component installation activities. Exposure to industrial noise, rotating machinery, heat, and shop conditions is expected. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies, and respiratory protection may be required based on task or location. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts depending on production requirements.
