Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Islington to assist with the appointment of an Inquiries and Decisions Officers, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £22.51 - £30.09 per hour

The Inquiries & Decisions Officer will play a key frontline role within the Housing Needs and Strategy service, responsible for carrying out homelessness assessments, enquiries, and statutory decision-making for single people and families.

Responsibilities

  • Assess homelessness applications and make statutory enquiries and main duty decisions in line with relevant legislation
  • Clear existing homelessness decision backlogs and manage complex cases involving single people and families
  • Promote the principles of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and homelessness prevention
  • Deliver a responsive, empathetic, and trauma-informed service to vulnerable residents
  • Participate in case conferences with internal services including Adult Social Care, Childrens Services, MARAC, health services, and other partners
  • Support initiatives for complex and vulnerable groups, including rough sleepers, refugees/asylum seekers, victims of domestic abuse, care leavers, and LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Ensure safeguarding responsibilities for children and vulnerable adults are met at all times

Essentials

  • Experience working with vulnerable members of the public in a housing, health, or social care setting
  • Experience conducting homelessness assessments and making decisions in line with legislation and guidance
  • Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, including the Housing Act, Homelessness Reduction Act, Code of Guidance, and Domestic Abuse Act
  • Ability to work empathetically and in a trauma-informed manner
  • Excellent written communication skills, including drafting decision letters and reports

  • You should have right to work in U.K
  • This role requires an Enhanced DBS
