Job Description
Purpose/Objective of the Role:
- Assist in the Inorganic Chemistry lab
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Prepare for every laboratory meeting by reading the laboratory experiment in the laboratory manual. You should understand every step of the procedure.
- Familiarize yourself with the pre-lab assignments such that you can help students with questions they may have about the assignment.
- If you have difficulty with #1 or #2, it is your responsibility to see the instructor before lab.
- You must come to lab prepared.
- Show up on time to perform your duties.
- Assist the laboratory instructor in duties directly related to the delivery of the lab.
- Receive laboratory safety training. See Dr. Grunkemeyer.
- Follow all safety guidelines; wear goggles and appropriate clothing.
- Circulate among the students in the laboratory section, helping students with questions as they have them.
- Watch students to be sure they are using proper technique. Correct them when they show poor technique.
- Do not just give students the answers. Lead them through the reasoning that will guide them to the right way of thinking about problems in lab.
- Make sure students have returned common equipment (such as centrifuges and glassware) to the proper location at the end of lab.
- Make sure students have cleaned up their work area at the end of lab.
Qualifications:
- Applicants should have successfully completed one year of CHEM 260/261 before applying for this position.
