The Registered Nurse in the Infusion team provides direct patient care within Sarasota Arthritis Center’s Infusion Suite, administering specialty infusions and injections in a safe, compassionate, and compliant manner. This position ensures the highest standard of clinical quality, patient comfort, and adherence to provider orders, established protocols, and regulatory requirements. The RN plays a critical role in monitoring patient response to treatment, maintaining infusion efficiency, and fostering a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care within the Infusion Suite, administering specialty infusions and injectionsin accordance withprovider orders and established protocols.
- Prepare patients for their infusion or injection by obtaining vital signs and completing prescreening questions per SOPs.
- Start IVs for infusion patients and ensure proper venous access throughout treatment.
- Monitor patients during and after infusions for adverse reactions, intervening and escalating to providers asappropriate.
- Administerinjectionmedications as ordered, confirming future appointments are scheduled prior to administration.
- Document all clinical care provided in the electronic medical record (NextGen) accurately and in real time.
- Collaborate with providers, medical assistants, and pharmacy staff to verify infusion orders, review prior authorizations, and confirm medication availability.
- Prepare, mix (if applicable), and handle medications using aseptic technique and manufacturer guidelines.
- Recorddrug lotnumbers,expirationdates, and dosages for billing and compliance purposes.
- Follow established standing orders, emergency procedures, and infusion suite safety protocols.
- Conduct proactive prescreening for next-day patients when infusion volume allows.
- Assistwith seating patients, obtaining vitals, and completing intake assessments to ensureoptimalpatient flow.
- Support teammates by helping with patient turnover,monitoringthe suite for needs, and restockingsuppliesas necessary.
- Maintain compliance with infection control protocols and ensure infusion chairs, workstations, and supply areas are clean and properly stocked.
- Participate in daily checks of crash cart, temperature logs, and equipment readiness.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, providing education on medications, potential side effects, and post-infusion care.
- Foster a calm, organized, and patient-centered infusion environment while collaborating effectively with all team members.
- Participate in department meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida (required)
- BLS certificationrequired; ACLS preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience in an outpatient, infusion, oncology, or hospital setting (rheumatology or immunology preferred)
- Strong IV insertion and infusion management skills
- Proficiencyin EMR systems (NextGen orsimilar preferred)
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and patient care skills
- Ability to work collaboratively andmaintainprofessionalism in a fast-paced environment
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during patient care and clinic hours.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers tooperatemedical instruments, equipment, and computer systems.
- Ability toassistwith patient positioning, transfers, and limited mobility needs.
- Occasional bending, stooping, andreaching toaccess supplies orassistpatients.
- Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally (e.g., patient care equipment, supply boxes).
- Visualacuityto read charts, labels, and computer screens.
- Hearing and speech abilitysufficientto communicate with patients, families, physicians, and team members.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in person, over the phone, andelectronically.
