Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in Cisco UCS Intersight, enterprise server infrastructure, and data center operations. This individual will play a critical role in supporting and modernizing our on-premise infrastructure environment while helping execute a multi-year data center consolidation initiative.

The engineer will be responsible for maintaining Cisco UCS environments, performing hardware troubleshooting and break/fix activities, managing firmware upgrades, supporting server lifecycle management, and assisting with the decommissioning and migration of infrastructure tied to our Charlotte, NC data center footprint.

This role requires a hands-on engineer who is comfortable working both remotely and within the physical data center environment.

Key Responsibilities

Cisco UCS & Intersight Administration:

  • Administer and support Cisco UCS infrastructure, including: UCS Fabric Interconnects, UCS Chassis, UCS Blades, Rack Servers, UCS Service Profiles, UCS Domains
  • Manage Cisco Intersight for monitoring, lifecycle management, policy administration, and infrastructure automation.
  • Perform UCS hardware installations, replacements, and upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot server, network, storage connectivity, and UCS-related issues.

Hardware Operations & Break/Fix Support:

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for server hardware incidents.
  • Diagnose and resolve: Failed blades, DIMMs, CPUs, Power supplies, VIC adapters, Fabric interconnect issues, Chassis faults
  • Coordinate with Cisco TAC and hardware vendors on warranty and replacement activities.
  • Perform physical installation, racking, stacking, and cabling of equipment when required.

Firmware & Lifecycle Management:

  • Develop and execute firmware upgrade strategies for: Cisco UCS, Fabric Interconnects, Blade Servers, Rack Servers, Adapters and peripherals
  • Create maintenance plans that minimize disruption to production environments.
  • Validate firmware compatibility across compute, storage, virtualization, and network components.
  • Maintain lifecycle roadmaps and hardware refresh plans.

Data Center Consolidation & Decommissioning:

  • Support ongoing initiatives to reduce and consolidate physical infrastructure.
  • Participate in migration planning, workload relocation, server decommissioning, and equipment retirement activities.
  • Conduct infrastructure assessments and dependency analysis.
  • Coordinate shutdown and removal of legacy infrastructure associated with the Charlotte data center exit strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with asset disposition and data destruction requirements.

Infrastructure Support:

  • Support VMware infrastructure running on Cisco UCS platforms.
  • Partner with storage, networking, security, and cloud teams during infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis efforts.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure documentation, operational procedures, and support runbooks.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years supporting enterprise server infrastructure.
  • 3+ years administering Cisco UCS environments.

Hands-on experience with:

  • Cisco Intersight
  • UCS Manager
  • Fabric Interconnects
  • Blade and Rack Server environments

Strong understanding of:

  • Enterprise hardware platforms
  • Server lifecycle management
  • Firmware management processes
  • Data center operations
  • Experience performing physical break/fix work inside enterprise data centers.

Familiarity with:

  • VMware vSphere/ESXi
  • SAN connectivity
  • Fibre Channel
  • Enterprise networking fundamentals
  • Experience working with hardware vendors and support organizations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Mill, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
