THE WORK:

  • You’ll lead and direct design activities for School Upgrade and critical repair projects while serving as the District’s primary design authority.
  • You’ll manage and coordinate the District’s overall design process to ensure compliance with functional, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
  • You’ll oversee multiple projects from concept through final design review and handoff to project execution teams.
  • You’ll ensure all building designs meet LAUSD standards, educational needs, and building code requirements.
  • You’ll establish and implement procedures for selecting the most qualified architectural firms for each project.
  • You’ll provide architects with clear direction regarding project goals, standards, schedules, budgets, and site requirements.
  • You’ll lead an efficient design review process to maximize value, sustainability, and functional performance.
  • You’ll ensure timely decision-making throughout all project phases.
  • You’ll ensure all project documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with legal standards.
  • You’ll review and manage design changes to maintain budget control.
  • You’ll recommend architectural firm assignments from pre-qualified firm lists.
  • You’ll participate in community outreach efforts to build understanding and support for District projects.
  • You’ll coordinate design activities across District departments and promote continuing education and professional development for staff.
  • Onsite at client site: The work location for this role is onsite with our clients and partners to enable delivery and cultivate our client relationships.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering
  • Fifteen (15) years full-time paid professional experience managing the facilities design, or the planning and coordination of capital projects that includes the overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities
  • 5 years of this experience must be with the design, planning and construction of K-12 educational facilities
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE:

  • A master’s degree in Architecture or Engineering
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
