The Structures Inspections section of the Infrastructure Assessment-Transportation unit is responsible for:

  • tracking and managing asset inventory
  • planning and managing regulatory Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) inspections of structural assets
  • periodic non-OSIM inspections of drainage culverts and other structural assets
  • coordinating routine and preventative maintenance of structural assets and small culvert replacement works with staff in Roads and Parking Services (RPS) of the Public Works (PW) department
  • identifying performance issues and the need for detailed condition assessments, responding to public and internal inquiries related to structural assets in coordination with RPS, and
  • reviewing circulations from internal City departments/external agencies and providing feedback.

You are responsible for:

  • administering the contract for non-OSIM inspections of drainage culverts
  • conducting on-site inspections of drainage culverts in response to service requests
  • co-ordinating small culvert replacements and maintenance of other structural assets by RPS
  • providing cursory review and comments on structures for development circulations, and
  • maintaining and updating information in the asset management system (e.g. Maximo, RIVA)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of a 3-year college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology 

Minimum of 5 years of experience in asset management or infrastructure assessment

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with OACETT

KNOWLEDGE

  • Technical civil engineering standards, principles, methods and practices relating to asset management/infrastructure assessment
  • Microsoft Office applications (including Excel, Word, Outlook and Internet Explorer)
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Read and interpret condition assessments and other relevant technical engineering documents, plans and drawings
  • Analytical skills
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Contract administration skills
  • Ability to co-ordinate work
  • Ability to prepare cost estimates
  • Work effectively in a team environment

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing required.
  • Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
