As an Infrastructure & Systems Engineer, you will provide Level 2/3 technical expertise across the organisation's Microsoft and infrastructure environment, ensuring systems remain secure, reliable and highly available. Working as the primary escalation point for complex infrastructure issues, you will support and enhance cloud and on-premises environments, contribute to cybersecurity initiatives, and provide operational support to a sole on-site ICT resource. This role is ideal for a proactive engineer who enjoys troubleshooting, continuous improvement and delivering exceptional technical outcomes.
This is a 6 month contract position.
Requirements
What you'll do:
- Provide Level 2/3 technical support and escalation across Microsoft 365, Azure and on-premises infrastructure.
- Administer and support Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams and Entra ID.
- Manage Azure resources including virtual machines, networking, storage and identity services.
- Maintain Windows Server environments, Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Administer and support VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualisation platforms.
- Configure and troubleshoot network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls and VPN connectivity.
- Monitor infrastructure health, identify risks and proactively resolve performance and availability issues.
- Support cybersecurity operations by responding to security incidents, applying security best practices and assisting with threat remediation.
- Perform system patching, upgrades and vulnerability remediation across server and cloud environments.
- Manage backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring successful testing and recovery readiness.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administration tasks.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers to resolve infrastructure issues.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to the on-site ICT resource where required.
- Participate in after-hours support for critical incidents and planned maintenance activities.
- Contribute to infrastructure improvement projects and technology initiatives.
What you'll bring:
- Demonstrated experience in a Level 2/3 Infrastructure or Systems Engineer role.
- Strong experience administering Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams and Entra ID.
- Hands-on experience managing Microsoft Azure infrastructure and services.
- Solid knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Experience supporting VMware and/or Hyper-V environments.
- Strong networking knowledge across switching, routing, firewalls and VPN technologies.
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments integrating on-premises infrastructure with Microsoft Azure.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles, incident response and security best practices.
- Experience managing backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
- Strong PowerShell scripting skills to automate administration and operational tasks.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities across complex infrastructure environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and provide reliable technical leadership when required.
- A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, documentation and operational excellence.
Desriable:
- Microsoft certifications (Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect or similar).
- Experience with Microsoft Defender, Sentinel or other Microsoft security technologies.
- Experience working within a Managed Services Provider (MSP) or multi-client environment.
- ITIL Foundation certification or experience working within ITIL service management practices.
