Harris County Precinct 4 seeks a dedicated and service-oriented IT Technical Support Specialist I to support core technology operations across the precinct. This role plays a vital part in daily helpdesk activity, technical troubleshooting, and project support, ensuring staff have the reliable tools and systems needed to serve Precinct 4 constituents.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, quick learner, and proactive problem-solver with a passion for technology and customer service. Daily work focuses on supporting Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Microsoft Intune, and the broad array of software applications used throughout the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver responsive, customer-focused support by managing helpdesk tickets submitted through the online support system, email, phone, and in-person requests.
- Image, configure, and deploy new hardware, accessories, and standard software—ensuring proper security configuration and user environment setup.
- Administer Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including account creation and management, MFA and password resets, security group membership, and license allocation.
- Support and manage devices through Microsoft Intune, including enrollment, compliance policies, configuration profiles, and application deployment.
- Build and maintain working knowledge of the software applications used across Precinct 4; install, configure, update, and troubleshoot operating systems, applications, and firmware.
- Provide ongoing training and onboarding support, including new-hire technology orientation and guidance for individuals or groups on IT systems and applications.
- Travel regularly to Precinct 4 facilities to install, maintain, and troubleshoot technology on-site and offer in-person support.
- Assist with testing, troubleshooting, and implementing technology systems that modernize and expand Precinct 4’s infrastructure.
- Maintain physical technology inventory and uphold accurate recordkeeping for IT-related documentation.
- Participate in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery activities.
- Represent Precinct 4 professionally and assist constituents when appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of precinct operations.

Examples of duties
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of experience providing customer service or technical support in a technology-driven environment.
Licensure:
- Valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and Microsoft Intune.
- Working knowledge of identity and access management fundamentals, including user and device objects, security groups, permissions, licensing, and multi-factor authentication.
- Ability to learn new applications quickly and effectively support end users in troubleshooting and training scenarios.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and confidence engaging both technical staff and end users.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple requests.
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; able to follow written and verbal instructions and resolve problems in standardized situations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, maintain professional composure, and manage conflict constructively.
- Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including user, group, and device management.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune for device enrollment, configuration, compliance policies, and application deployment.
- Experience supporting and training users across diverse business software platforms.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications such as MD-102, SC-900, or AZ-900.
- Physical ability to perform job functions, including sitting, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds as needed; capable of meeting required vision and mobility expectations.
