Job Description

The Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is the largest municipally owned gas utility in the nation, supplying gas service in the City of Philadelphia to over 500,000 customers. Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is offering internships/co-ops for Computer Science students in our Information Service Governance Department. Opportunities are available during the academic/calendar year and summer months.

The PGW Internship Program is designed for students currently enrolled FULL-TIME at an accredited college or university with a sophomore classification or above ONLY.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement data governance strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and security of our organization's data assets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data governance frameworks and establish data standards, including data classification, data lifecycle management, data quality, and data privacy.
  • Helps in ensuring controls are in place for access and security for IS managed and self-service environments.
  • Work with the Director of IS Governance to promote a data driven culture through data literacy programs and best practices 
  • Work with the Director of IS Governance to establish policies and monitor for AI-related products.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with data governance policies and procedures, identifying and resolving data quality issues and vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to implement data governance tools and technologies, ensuring their alignment with business requirements and objectives.
  • Work as part of a team to gather requirements and assess data governance tools.
  • Assist in developing and implementing IS governance policies and procedures to ensure alignment with organizational goals and compliance with legal and regulatory standards 
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to provide necessary information and support during IS audits.
  • Assist in analyzing IS governance data to identify trends and patterns, generating comprehensive reports on key metrics and performance indicators.

Qualifications

  • Be a full-time student currently enrolled in an accredited university or college;
  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Services, or other relevant field of study;
  • Have a sophomore classification or above;
  • Be in good academic standing;
  • Be able to commit to 15-20 hours per week to the program (year-round interns);
  • Previous internship experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
