Under general supervision of the Chief Information Officer, the Information Systems Generalist I perform ongoing, day–to-day maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of the County’s Detention Center I.S. infrastructure, software, network systems, physical security systems, and servers. This position may entail access to confidential employee information. The individual is responsible for providing quality and timely implementation of new software, upgrading of security packages, and assistance to users in all related computer and software programs. This I.S. professional will help to ensure stable operation of information systems and services.

Examples of duties

  • Associate degree in computer science or related field with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience in either application support or computer networking; or equivalent combination of education and work experience sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Pass an initial comprehensive criminal background check and be subject to periodic background checks during the course of your employment in this position.
  • Valid State of New Mexico Driver's license or able to obtain within six (6) months of employment.

Qualifications

  • Work is performed in an office environment; may be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision to monitor; may be subject to extended periods of intense concentration in the review of documents and reports.
  • May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting such as retrieving files, records, and reports.
  • Required to sign and adhere to a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary company information as part of daily duties.
  • Full time work hours for this position consists of scheduled “on call” rotation as a requirement, including nights, weekends, and overtime.
  • Work schedule for this position may include working on religious holidays.
  • Utilize, process, and navigate the County’s electronic ERP system as necessary and appropriate based on the needs and requirements of this position.

  • Conducting all job functions with an awareness of security technologies and best practices, making recommendations and implementing security measures to protect all County data and assets.
  • Installation and programming of detention center infrastructure including physical security systems, applications, desktop computers, and servers.
  • Installation and programming of Hyper-V virtual machine infrastructure. Including virtual machines and thin clients
  • Provide level I and II support of client hardware, physical security systems and all applications for Detention facilities.
  • Assist in training users on the use of detention systems; sets them up on the system and assist them in the use of the system.
  • Assist in resolution of critical server and infrastructure failures.
  • Assist in creating new users and managing user permission in various Detention systems.
  • Works with vendors to resolve any issues and for installation, repair, and testing.
  • Installing system upgrades and patches to all detention infrastructure systems, network infrastructure, physical security infrastructure, and applications.
  • May assist in administration of regular backup, storage, and retrieval functions of critical data.
  • Design custom reports for departments as requested using various reporting tools including SQL Server Reporting Services and Excel.
  • Monitor Detention IS systems for proper operation and working conditions.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation and procedures for various Detention IS systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This course is open year round and is a challenging high desert layout, it certainly is San Juan County’s Finest!

In addition to these activities San Juan County has many other points of interest such as Indian ruins, including Chaco Canyon National Park, the Aztec Ruins, Salmon Ruins, and Mesa Verde National. Farmington, the largest city in the County, provides a shopping hub for the area which covers a 150 mile radius and includes the smaller towns of Aztec, Bloomfield, and Shiprock, New Mexico, as well as several towns in Colorado including Durango and Cortez.
