Your Role:

As EIT continues to scale its research programmes, digital platforms, and scientific infrastructure, we are seeking an experienced Information Security Operations Manager to protect our people, data, and research environments.

This is a hands‑on leadership role that blends operational security management, incident response, detection engineering, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with IT, research computing, data governance, and legal teams to ensure that security enable, rather than restricts, world-class scientific innovation.

You will be a calm, decisive presence during incidents and a trusted partner across the organisation, ensuring that security controls are robust, resilient, and aligned to EIT’s mission.

Your Responsibilities:

Security Operations & Monitoring

  • Leading and managing EIT’s security operations function, including monitoring, detection, response, and recovery.
  • Owning and continuously improving incident response processes, playbooks, and post‑incident reviews.
  • Overseeing vulnerability management, patching coordination, and the effectiveness of security tooling.
  • Ensuring operational security controls are well‑defined, documented, and consistently applied.
  • Managing security operations staff and external service providers.

Policy, Governance & Compliance

  • Implementing and enforcing security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Supporting compliance with relevant frameworks (including ISO 27001:2022).
  • Maintaining security evidence, audit materials, and regulatory documentation.

Technology & Infrastructure

  • Overseeing SIEM, EDR, IAM, vulnerability scanning, and other security technologies.
  • Ensuring secure operation of cloud, on‑premise, hybrid, and HPC research environments.
  • Collaborating with IT and infrastructure teams on secure architecture and change management.

Requirements

Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience managing teams or leading operational security functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical risk clearly to varied audiences.
  • Calm, clear leadership during security incidents.
  • Familiarity with ISO 27001:2022 and security governance.

Desirable Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in research‑intensive, scientific, or academic environments.
  • Knowledge of high‑performance computing (HPC) or large‑scale data platforms.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GIAC).
  • Experience coordinating physical and cyber security operations.

Benefits

Our Benefits:

  • Salary: £75,000 - £90,000 (dependent on experience) + travel allowance + bonus
  • Enhanced holiday + options to buy additional days
  • Pension
  • Life Assurance
  • Income Protection
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Hospital Cash Plan
  • Therapy Services
  • Perk Box
  • Electric Car Scheme
  • Childcare benefit

Set for completion in 2027, the EIT Campus in Littlemore will include more than 300,000 sq ft of research laboratories, educational and gathering spaces.

Fuelled by growing ambition and the strength of Oxford’s science ecosystem, EIT is now expanding its footprint to a 2 million sq ft Campus across the western part of The Oxford Science Park.

Designed by Foster + Partners led by Lord Norman Foster, this will become a transformative workplace for up to 7,000 people, with autonomous laboratories, purpose-built laboratories including a plant sciences building and dynamic spaces to spark interdisciplinary collaboration.
