Candescent is seeking a motivated and detail-orientedInformation Security Engineer Ito join ourFraud & Risk Detection team. This is anentry-level roledesigned for candidates beginning their careers in cybersecurity or fraud prevention, with an interest in protecting digital banking platforms from evolving threats.
In this role, you will support fraud detection, investigation, and response efforts, working closely with experienced engineers and analysts. You will gain hands-on exposure tofraud investigation processes, account takeover (ATO) prevention, and security monitoring toolswhile helping safeguard customer accounts and financial systems.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:
- Assist in conductingfraud investigations, reviewing alerts and identifying suspicious account activity
- Support the documentation and preparation ofSuspicious Activity Reports (SAR)in accordance with internal and regulatory standards
- Monitor and help respond toAccount Takeover (ATO) incidents, including detection, escalation, and basic containment actions
- UtilizeSIEM (Security Information and Event Management) toolsto review logs and identify anomalous or potentially fraudulent behavior
- Leveragesecurity and analytics technologies (e.g., Cloudflare)to support traffic monitoring and fraud signal detection
- Perform basic data analysis usingSQL and other data query languagesto identify trends, anomalies, and fraud indicators
- Collaborate with fraud analysts and security engineers to improve detection rules and alerting mechanisms
- Assist in incident response activities related to fraud and account compromise events
- Maintain documentation for investigations, processes, and findings
- Build awareness of emerging fraud tactics, threats, and fraud prevention strategies in the financial services industry
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or related field (or equivalent training/experience)
- 0–2 years of relevant experience (internships, academic projects, or entry-level roles welcome)
- Foundational knowledge or exposure to:
- Fraud investigations or fraud operations
- SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, Sentinel, QRadar)
- Account takeover (ATO) or identity-based security threats
- Basic experience or coursework involvingSQL or data analysis
- Familiarity withsecurity tools or platforms such as Cloudflare (or similar technologies)
- Awareness ofSuspicious Activity Reporting (SAR)requirements and financial regulations (preferred but not required)
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and willingness to learn
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Distinctions:
- Internship or hands-on experience infraud prevention, cybersecurity, or financial services
- Exposure todigital banking, payments, or FinTech environments
- Entry-level certifications such asSecurity+, Certified Cybersecurity Associate, or similar
- Familiarity withbasic scripting or automation (Python, SQL)
- Interest in fraud analytics, behavioral detection, or risk scoring models
