Information Security Analyst II

This position within the Enterprise Information Security office provides state agencies with security guidance aligned with NIST, Federal Regulatory Compliance Standards, and DTS Security Policies. It is a career service exempt at-will position.

This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office and telework days, 2 days a week required in office and any mandatory in-office meetings. The Office location is at the Taylorsville State Office Building, 4315 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, Utah. Please note, a position's eligibility for telework is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.

This job may be filled at either of the levels listed below. (Rate as listed or in accordance with DHRM Rules for current state employees.)

• Information Security Analyst II, $32.20 - $51.05 per hour
• Information Security Analyst I, $26.61 - $45.78 per hour
  

Key Responsibilities

• Performs and coordinates Security Incident Response activities with State Agencies.
• Communicates alerts regarding intrusions and compromises to network infrastructure, applications and operating systems.
• Assists with implementation of counter-measures or mitigating controls.
• Monitoring and assisting with compliance, such as, PCI DSS Compliance, IRS FTI compliance, HIPAA Compliance, CJIS Compliance or any other regulatory compliance that is applicable to the agencies supported.
• Assist agencies with regulatory audits.
• Performs / assists agencies with risk assessments.
• Monitors and reviews threat intelligence.
• Review firewall requests.
• Performs security assessments for agency systems/applications.

Qualifications

• Security Monitoring & Threat Hunting: Proficiency in leading daily security monitoring of systems, firewalls, and endpoint protection, including the ability to perform threat hunting and investigate anomalies.
• Incident Response & Forensics: Expert-level capability in coordinating incident response (triage, containment, eradication) and conducting forensic investigations like log analysis, malware review, and packet captures.
• Risk & Vulnerability Management: Experience conducting advanced vulnerability assessments, penetration testing coordination, threat modeling, and risk assessments.
• Compliance & Governance: Strong knowledge of regulatory and security frameworks, including NIST CSF/RMF, NIST 800-53, CIS Controls, PCI DSS, and HIPAA.
• Security Architecture: Familiarity with secure system, network, and cloud design principles, such as zero-trust and SASE architectures.
• Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to act as a subject-matter expert, mentor junior and mid-level analysts, and lead complex security projects.
• Communication: Ability to prepare detailed reports, metrics, and executive briefings for diverse stakeholders, including IT, engineering, legal, and compliance teams.
