Job Description
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Infectious Diseases to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with a wide range of infectious diseases while providing expert consultation on antimicrobial therapy, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship. The Consultant will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care and infection control.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Evaluate and manage complex infectious diseases, including sepsis, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, tropical diseases, healthcare-associated infections, and multidrug-resistant organisms.
- Provide expert consultation to physicians across all specialties regarding infectious disease management.
- Lead antimicrobial stewardship initiatives to promote the appropriate use of antimicrobial agents.
- Collaborate with the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team to reduce healthcare-associated infections.
- Interpret microbiology, serology, molecular diagnostic tests, and imaging studies relevant to infectious diseases.
- Develop evidence-based treatment plans and monitor patient outcomes.
- Participate in outbreak investigations, surveillance activities, and hospital infection control programs.
- Educate patients, families, and healthcare professionals on infection prevention, vaccination, and antimicrobial resistance.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and DOH regulations.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, research, quality improvement initiatives, and Continuing Medical Education (CME).
- Supervise junior physicians, residents, and medical students where applicable.
- Participate in on-call duties as required.
Requirements
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- MD/DNB/Arab Board/CCT/American Board or equivalent qualification in Internal Medicine.
- Fellowship or recognized subspecialty qualification in Infectious Diseases
- Valid DOH License or DOH Eligibility Letter in Infectious Diseases.
- Minimum 5-10 years of post-specialty experience, including experience as a Consultant in Infectious Diseases.
- Experience in antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, and management of complex infectious diseases is highly desirable.
