Infectious Diseases in immunocompromised children has emerged as a subspecialty within Pediatric Infectious Diseases over the past 2 decades, reflecting the increasing volumes and complexity of this patient population. Faculty positions focused on the care of immunocompromised hosts are in increasing demand, demonstrating an appreciation for expertise in this realm. The Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is pleased to offer a highly individualized fellowship program in Infectious Diseases of Immunocompromised Children and Adolescents. This program is intended for practitioners who have completed a Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship and who wish to gain additional expertise and experience in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of infections in this patient population. The training program is jointly administered by the Department of Infectious Diseases at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
The training program is 12-24 months in duration and can be customized to meet participants’ individual learning goals. Participants manage patients with a wide variety of infectious diseases on both an inpatient and an ambulatory basis. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital provides care for over 500 new patients with cancer annually. A total of 75-100 hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT) are performed annually, the majority being allogeneic or haploidentical. More than 250 HIV-infected children and youth receive care and participate in numerous NIH and pharmaceutical industry studies yearly. Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital has a 40-year history of pediatric transplant surgery, offering national destination programs for multiple types of solid organ transplant. Trainees also have opportunities to participate in antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention and control, teaching and, for those who extend their training period for more than 12 months, research.
Fellows receive a competitive salary, professional development allowance, a personal computer for use during the fellowship, tuition assistance, dependent care assistance, moving allowance, an onsite health and fitness facility, flexible health and dependent care savings accounts, medical, dental and vision insurance (cost shared), and disability, long term disability, and group life insurance. Memphis offers a relaxed, affordable lifestyle with excellent cultural and recreational amenities.
Applicants must have a MD or local equivalent and three years of postdoctoral training in pediatrics in either an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program or an RCPSC-accredited pediatric residency program in Canada.
