The Infection Prevention Level I Practitioner is responsible for assisting with the development, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of the MultiCare Health System Infection Prevention Program. This position is required to develop, analyze, and interpret a variety of information relating to infection control surveillance, policies, procedures, staff education, practices, and regulatory mandates, requiring independent decision-making and analytical problem solving. The role supports daily surveillance, analysis of infection trends, staff education, and regulatory compliance. The IP collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient safety and prevent transmission of infectious agents.

Hospital-based leaders may have a dual matrixed reporting structure.

Requirements

  • Consults with and is a resource to other disciplines, departments, and agencies to identify problems, implement corrective action, and evaluate its effectiveness in the improvement of patient care, safety, quality, regulatory compliance, communicable disease reporting, construction, and renovation.

  • Maintains responsibility for own professional growth and development.

  • Assists with the developments of written policies and procedures for infection surveillance, prevention and control for all patient care departments and others as required.

  • Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations, continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned.

  • Follows established HAI reporting workflow.

  • Attends all IP related meetings.

  • Conducts surveillance using NHSN definitions; identifies and investigates HAIs.

  • Implements infection control measures and tracks compliance.

  • Provides routine education and training to clinical and support staff.

  • Performs outbreak investigations and develops mitigation strategies.

  • Monitors compliance with CDC, CMS, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards.

  • Participates in infection prevention rounding and risk assessments.

  • Contributes to data collection.

  • Collaborates with departments to ensure adherence to isolation precautions and standard practices.

  • Supports audit readiness for accreditation and regulatory surveys.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing

  • Registered Nurse with a valid license to practice nursing in the State of Washington

  • 3-5 years and current clinical experience in a hospital or ambulatory setting.

  • 2 years of Experience in Infection Prevention and Control preferred.

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) (preferred) or attainment of certification within 3 years of hire

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $133,848.00 - $200,782.40 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
