Full Time Position - (1.0 FTE)

This position is at the L09 level with an hourly pay range of $49.73 - $66.42

The Infection Control Practitioner supports the strategic goals and objectives of the corporate Infection Control; Occupational Health Programs and provides infection control and occupational health expertise within the Yukon Hospital Corporation (YHC).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • One to two years as an Infection Control/Occupational Health Practitioner in a healthcare care setting.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of basic nursing procedures;
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the principles of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization processes;
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the modes of transmission of infection;
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to identify infectious diseases strategies;
  • Extensive knowledge of trends and developments in occupational health and wellness within a hospital setting;
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to use medical equipment used in health assessments, immunization programs and workplace surveillance;
  • Experience in the field of Infection Control and Occupational Health and specific knowledge of related requirements and practices in a Hospital setting;
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory bodies that affect infection control/occupational health practices;
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk management principles, methods and techniques as it relates to infection prevention and control and occupational health;
  • Knowledge and understanding of program development and evaluation methods and techniques;
  • Knowledge and ability to work independently with a high level of professional judgment and initiative in making technical decisions involving the analysis of existing policies and procedures for the Infection Prevention and Control and Occupational Health programs;
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize adult education learning techniques;
  • Knowledge and ability to intervene effectively to resolve conflict and manage competing demands;
  • Understanding of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and statistical analysis;
  • Very good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to plan, organize, analyze and evaluate multiple tasks;
  • Ability to interpret information collected from various sources, review scientific evidence and make recommendation to guide practice;
  • Strong prioritization; organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect and process information from multiple sources to make prudent decisions;
  • Demonstrated computer skill proficiency including Windows based programs (i.e. MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint; and Outlook); and
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.

The successful candidate will have a Baccalaureate Nursing Degree. Professional Membership in good standing in Yukon Registered Nurses Association. Active membership in Community and Hospital Infection Control Association – Canada (CHICA). Immunization Certification, Fit Testing Certification, Current CPR, Occupational Health Nursing Certificate (one year) and Certification in Infection Control (CIC). Quality Improvement (CQI) certification, Risk Management & Safety in Healthcare certification, Meditech experience and Coursework or experience in adult education. An equivalent combination of education/training and/or experience may be considered.
