8741 Nursing Professional DevelopmentThe Infection Prevention Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible for providing specialized patient care services focused on the prevention, identification, evaluation, and management of infectious diseases and healthcare-associated infections across inpatient and outpatient settings. Working under the supervision and collaboration of a licensed physician, the APRN delivers evidence-based clinical care, supports infection prevention initiatives, promotes patient and staff education, and contributes to quality improvement efforts that enhance patient safety and outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS
License/Certification
Required:
Current CA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (such as Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist)
Current CA RN license
National certification as a: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC or FNP-C), or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP), or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), or other APRN specialty appropriate to the patient population served.
BLS
Preferred: Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology.
Experience
Preferred: Experience with healthcare-associated infection (HAI) surveillance, antimicrobial stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must complete credentialing through Medical Staff Interdisciplinary Practice Committee.
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
Knowledge of infection prevention principles, epidemiology, and infectious disease management.
Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Excellent communication, patient education, and documentation skills.
Ability to analyze clinical data and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Commitment to patient safety, evidence-based practice, and continuous professional development.
Knowledge of standards and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, and The Joint Commission preferred.
JOB RESPONSIBILITES
Essential
Assesses, diagnoses, and manages patients with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases within the APRN scope of practice and applicable regulations.
Provides direct patient care in hospital and outpatient settings under physician supervision.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests and laboratory studies related to infectious diseases and infection prevention.
Develops, implements, and monitors individualized treatment and care plans.
Collaborates with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and optimize outcomes.
Participates in infection prevention and control activities, including surveillance, outbreak investigation, and implementation of evidence-based prevention strategies.
Educates patients, families, and healthcare personnel regarding infection prevention practices, antimicrobial stewardship, immunizations, and disease prevention.
Documents patient assessments, treatment plans, and clinical outcomes in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Supports quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives related to infection prevention.
Maintains current knowledge of infectious disease management, infection prevention standards, and applicable healthcare regulations.
Additional
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan of Provision of Care.
