This position leads the facility's infection prevention and control efforts. Monitors infection risks, supports regulatory compliance, educates staff, and collaborates with all departments to promote a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role requires clinical expertise, adaptability, and the ability to function effectively in a secure and structured environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, implements and monitors the facility’s Infection Control Program in accordance with state and federal regulations, and contractual obligation.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for infections diseases, outbreak investigations, surveillance activities, employee health infection prevention initiatives and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct infection surveillance activities including collecting, analyzing, and reporting infection data to identify trends, outbreaks, healthcare-associated infections, and communicable diseases among patients and staff.
  • Maintain accurate infection control records, logs, and statistical reports.
  • Monitor, investigate, coordinate management of infectious diseases, and ensure timely reporting to regulatory and public health authorities as required.
  • Assist medical providers with implementation of isolation and transmission-based precautions when indicated.
  • Participate in contact investigations and outbreak response activities.
  • Develop and provide infection prevention education for staff.
  • Participate in inspections and regulatory reviews.
  • Participate in facility quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Prepare summary reports and performance metrics for leadership review.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, facility administration, security staff, and other stakeholders to support patient care, infection prevention efforts, and a safe and secure healthcare environment.
  • Document patient information, including medical history, symptoms, treatment progress, and other required information in electronic medical records.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and report any concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide critical care in collaboration with other healthcare team members.
  • Provide ethical nursing care in a confidential, caring, non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner.
  • Responds to operational and patient care needs by providing hands-on nursing care to patients as assigned or directed. This position is expected to function as a direct care nurse when necessary, including increased patient census, emergencies, or other circumstances requiring clinical support.
  • Adhere to strict security measures, including controlled access to medical supplies and compliance with facility policies on contraband.
  • It is expected the incumbent will work overtime when directed to do so.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, patients, and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

High School diploma or GED and graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the state of Texas or compact state. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Experience in infection prevention, public health, epidemiology, correctional health care, acute care, long-term care, or related clinical setting preferred. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual requirements to include maintaining licenses, certifications, and passing an annual background check.
