Summary
- The Infection Control and Education Coordinator is responsible for directing, planning, and administering all business and activities in the Education and Infection Control departments consistent with state standards. This position supervises and directs development of staff and activities related to continuing education, skill training, professional development, and access to knowledge-based information for health care workers. This position also coordinates with all departments to provide maximum level of service to employees, professional staff, and health care providers.
General Hours of Work
- M-F, Days; with evening and weekend involvement
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college; graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Actively employed in nursing for 3 years and experience in ACLS, BLS, NRP, TNCC, 1st Aid, and computers required. Instructor in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and 1st Aid preferred.
Certificate, Licenses, Registrations
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Iowa. Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date. Must obtain Infection Control certification within five years of hire
Essential Functions
- Develops and monitors operating and capital budgets for the department.
- Collaborates with Leadership team using indicators such as policy development, new technology, patient care, latest research in education and infection control.
- Collaborates with Infection Control Director of Nursing at Crown Pointe Estates
- Research, write, present, and implement infection control policies, procedures and plans which are consistent with current scientific knowledge and may be reasonably practiced by health care workers.
- Surveillance & Reporting: Plan, develop, and implement the hospital-wide Infection Control Program. Perform routine surveillance to identify, investigate, and record healthcare-associated infections. Work with Chief Nursing Officer to report mandated infectious disease data to state public health departments and the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
- Outbreak Management: Lead investigations of suspected or confirmed disease outbreaks. Implement immediate containment and mitigation strategies.
- Environment of Care: Conduct regular infection control rounds across all departments (acute care, emergency room, outpatient clinics, and long-term care if applicable). Evaluate compliance with hand hygiene, isolation precautions, sterilization, and environmental cleaning protocols.
- Consultation & Collaboration: Serve as a subject matter expert and liaison to the Medical Staff, Nursing, Environmental Services, and the local public health department. Leads the hospital’s Infection Control Committee.
- Work collaboratively with Employee Health, Safety Education, and Individual Departments to educate staff, monitor compliance, and recommend improvement.
- Functions as part of the quality team. May assist with tracking and implementation of Quality Improvement projects and CQI education efforts within the organization.
- Works with leadership team to develop, coordinate, and facilitate hospital-wide educational programs. This includes general orientation for new hires, annual mandatory competencies, and specialized clinical skills training (e.g., ACLS, PALS, BLS, or trauma care if applicable).
- Oversees CNA registries and other staff certifications and licenses. Assistance provided from administrative assistant.
- Oversees Healthstream and serves as contact for our organization. Assistance provided from administrative assistant.
- Works as a resource with department leaders to coordinate student clinical placements and job observation as needed
- Responsible for the annual CAH report
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
