About the Institute
The University of Washington Information School is recruiting an undergraduate student employee to support the UW Institute for Neurodiversity and Employment (INE). This role focuses on operations, office support, event support, and maintaining a welcoming and accessible shared space.
The UW Institute for Neurodiversity and Employment (INE) is a collaborative effort that brings together scholars and practitioners across disciplines to expand meaningful employment opportunities and career experiences for neurodivergent people. The Institute works with community leaders, employers, nonprofits, and foundations through translational research, applied professional education and training, community empowerment, advocacy, and neuroinclusive workplace practice. INE prioritizes equity, accessibility, and belonging for staff, faculty, students, and guests.
Position Description
This position will take place during Autumn Quarter 2026. Students may work up to 15 hours per week. This is primarily an in-person role based in the Institute’s office suite on the Seattle campus.
The student in this role will help support the day-to-day operations of the Institute, including office organization, event support, inventory and supply tracking, space upkeep, and other administrative tasks. This position is a good fit for a student who enjoys structured tasks, maintaining organized spaces and systems, and helping create a welcoming environment for staff, students, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Support the Program Operations Specialist with day-to-day office operations, including calendaring, workspace setup, onboarding tasks, office organization, cleanup, and preparing common areas for staff and guests.
- As assigned, manage the reception desk space to greet guests, answer and sort emails, receive INE calls and inquiry requests, and guide folks to their destinations.
- Help maintain the office suite by resetting rooms, tidying shared spaces, monitoring kitchen and office areas, supporting plant care, and identifying maintenance or supply needs.
- Check the mailroom regularly; sort, log, and route mail or packages to the appropriate staff member.
- Track inventory and restock office, kitchen, event, and accessibility supplies; flag low-stock items and help place or organize supply orders.
- Support info sessions, onsite trainings, and Institute events, including room setup and takedown, signage, printing, nametags, registration support, food setup, material preparation, and basic attendee support.
- Maintain simple task logs, checklists, spreadsheets, or shared documents related to supplies, event preparation, and recurring office responsibilities.
- May assist with website support work, such as updating content, checking links, or helping with basic accessibility review in WordPress.
- May support data entry, data cleanup, and other administrative or research operations tasks that require accuracy and attention to detail.
- Communicate questions, status updates, and any time-sensitive issues to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Complete other related operational or administrative tasks as assigned.
Renewal Potential
The iSchool anticipates this appointment will begin in Fall Quarter 2026, with the possibility of renewal for Winter and Spring quarters based on funding, business need, performance, and continued work-study eligibility.
Qualifications
Requirements
- There is a preference for students that are eligible for and able to accept a UW work-study appointment for the duration of employment.
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at the University of Washington Seattle during the appointment period.
- Able to work in person on the Seattle campus and move between the office suite, campus mailroom, and event spaces as needed.
- Able to occasionally work evening hours to support events, trainings, and workshops.
- Able to follow written instructions and checklists, complete recurring tasks, and communicate questions in a timely way.
- Basic computer skills, including email and documents/spreadsheets.
- Able to handle administrative information with discretion and maintain confidentiality when appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with office support, administrative support, customer service, inventory tracking, facilities support, or event support.
- Interest in neurodiversity, disability studies, employment equity, accessibility, research operations, or related fields.
- Experience supporting welcoming and inclusive environments for people with different backgrounds, communication styles, and working styles.
- Comfort using email, shared calendars, spreadsheets, and collaborative tools such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Familiarity with WordPress and web accessibility practices is a plus.
- Experience with event coordination, communications, or administrative support is a plus.
Work Environment and Support
- This role includes both recurring routine tasks and occasional event-based tasks.
- Training and written instructions will be provided.
- Weekly schedules and priorities will be shared in advance whenever possible.
- Work may involve moving across campus, moving lightweight supplies, and working in event environments that may occasionally be busy or moderately noisy.
