Job Description

Toshiba International Corporation is a world leader in the design and manufacture of motors, motor controls and power electronics products. Many of these products are designed, built and tested in our 1,000,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Houston, TX. We have developed a totally integrated manufacturing process from research and development, design, engineering, production and manufacturing to after-market service and sales & marketing. Toshiba differentiates itself from its competitors through its commitment to quality and reliability. We build products to perform in the most difficult conditions. From raw material to the finished product, we assure exacting quality, engineering excellence and stringent testing to meet domestic and international performance standards.

Build Your Career in the Field. Solve Complex Problems. Work Directly with Industrial Power Technology.

Toshiba International Corporation is seeking a technically driven Industrial Variable Frequency Drives Field Service Technician / Engineer who enjoys solving problems where they happen: at the customer site.

This is a highly hands-on, travel-intensive position for someone who wants to build deep expertise in variable frequency drives (VFDs), industrial power electronics, motor control, and electrical systems. You'll travel to customer locations to troubleshoot equipment, diagnose technical issues, perform repairs, and support startup and commissioning activities.

With approximately 80–90% domestic and international travel, this is not a traditional desk engineering position. You'll spend much of your time in the field working directly with industrial equipment and customers. It's an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys travel, independence, technical challenges, and seeing different applications and facilities rather than working in the same environment every day.

What You'll Do

Troubleshoot & Solve Technical Problems

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Toshiba industrial products at customer locations and in-house.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical systems and industrial power electronics to identify equipment issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Perform hands-on testing, troubleshooting, inspection, and repair activities.
  • Support customers with technical issues related to Toshiba's standard products.
  • Inspect and evaluate standard and select non-standard products to identify issues and determine appropriate corrective action.

Startup & Commission Industrial Equipment

  • Perform field startup and commissioning of Toshiba products and systems.
  • Verify equipment operation and assist in resolving technical issues encountered during commissioning.
  • Work directly with customers during startup, troubleshooting, repair, and field-service activities.

Be the Technical Face of Toshiba in the Field

  • Serve as a key technical resource for customers while on-site.
  • Communicate clearly with customer personnel regarding technical findings, equipment conditions, and service activities.
  • Provide professional, responsive customer support throughout each field assignment.
  • Complete customer-specific service reports, documentation, and other required records.

Own Your Field Assignments

  • Travel and work independently while following Toshiba safety, service, and departmental procedures.
  • Understand the assigned scope of work and execute field assignments accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed service reports, expense documentation, and supporting records.
  • Effectively manage field activities while maintaining a high level of professionalism at customer locations.

What We're Looking For

We're especially interested in candidates who enjoy hands-on electrical troubleshooting and want to develop deeper expertise in industrial drives and power electronics.

Preferred backgrounds include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or
  • Associate degree or technical degree in electrical/electronic technology or a related discipline, or
  • Relevant military electrical or power-system technical training.

Technical Experience

  • 0–4 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial power electronics or related electrical equipment.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs)/adjustable speed drives is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with AC induction motors or related industrial motor-control equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to systematically troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical problem-solving aptitude.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply technical information while diagnosing equipment issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in customer-facing technical situations.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions while working in the field.

Early-career candidates with strong electrical fundamentals and the desire to develop advanced industrial troubleshooting skills are encouraged to apply.

Travel

Approximately 80–90% domestic and international travel is required.

This position is designed for someone who genuinely enjoys being in the field. Candidates should be comfortable traveling extensively, independently navigating customer sites, and working in different industrial environments.

If you enjoy being on the move, getting hands-on with equipment, and solving technical problems directly for customers, the travel associated with this position can provide exposure to a wide variety of applications and environments.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role provides something that can be difficult to get early in a technical career: extensive hands-on experience solving real industrial equipment problems in the field.

Rather than spending your career behind a desk, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Develop specialized expertise in VFDs and industrial power electronics.
  • Gain significant hands-on troubleshooting and commissioning experience.
  • Work directly with industrial customers and equipment.
  • Encounter a wide variety of technical problems and applications.
  • Build both technical expertise and customer-facing skills.
  • Work independently and take ownership of field assignments.
  • Travel extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally.

For an electrical technician, military-trained electrical specialist, engineering technology graduate, or early-career electrical engineer who enjoys travel, troubleshooting, and hands-on technical work, this can be an opportunity to develop a highly specialized industrial skill set.
