In-Place Machining Company (IPM) is seeking an experienced Industrial Sales Engineer to drive technical sales and engineering solutions throughout the steel and forging industries. Requirements

What You'll Do

Drive Technical Sales Growth

  • Develop and expand relationships with steel mills, forging operations, rolling mills, and heavy industrial manufacturers
  • Identify new business opportunities and convert technical challenges into profitable projects
  • Present innovative field machining solutions to plant engineers, maintenance managers, and executive decision-makers
  • Build strategic partnerships with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and maintenance organizations

Provide Technical Expertise

  • Evaluate customer equipment issues and recommend precision repair solutions
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, weld symbols, tolerances, and specifications
  • Consult on applications including:
  • Line boring
  • Journal repairs
  • Flange facing
  • Precision machining
  • Mechanical alignment
  • Rotating equipment repair
  • Conduct on-site equipment assessments and troubleshooting activities

Deliver Winning Proposals

  • Collaborate with engineering, estimating, and operations teams
  • Develop accurate scopes of work, quotations, and technical proposals
  • Support project execution from initial customer consultation through successful completion
  • Maintain CRM records, sales forecasts, and project pipelines

Represent Industry Excellence

  • Participate in trade shows, customer visits, technical seminars, and industry events
  • Monitor market trends, customer needs, and competitive activity
  • Promote a strong culture of safety and operational excellence

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial sales, technical sales, applications engineering, or engineering support within the steel, forging, mining, power generation, or heavy industrial sectors
  • Proven success selling engineered services, industrial solutions, or capital equipment
  • Experience working with steel mills, rolling operations, forging facilities, or heavy manufacturing environments

Technical Expertise

  • Strong understanding of:
  • Heavy industrial equipment
  • Rotating machinery
  • Gearboxes
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Structural components
  • Machining processes and tolerances
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
  • Familiarity with metallurgical processes and industrial repair methodologies

Education

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Journeyman machinist, millwright, or equivalent hands-on industrial experience highly valued

Safety & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 60% throughout North America and internationally
  • Valid driver's license required
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred
  • Commitment to safe work practices in demanding industrial environments

Work Environment

This position regularly operates in steel mills, forging plants, machine shops, fabrication facilities, and other heavy industrial locations where exposure to large machinery, overhead cranes, welding operations, elevated work areas, and industrial manufacturing processes is common. Appropriate PPE and adherence to all safety protocols are required.
