Job Description

As a global leader in stainless steel manufacturing, we are seeking a dynamic Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to join our team and support the Melt Shop operations.

Location: Calvert, North Mobile County, Alabama.

Objective: Responsible for mechanical maintenance to ensure the proper functioning and operation of all systems in the Electric Arc Furnace, Argon Oxygen Decarburization and Emission Control System’s areas.

This position will support maintenance activities in the event of breakdown, shutdown, and any other planned maintenance as requested as well as perform routine and predictive maintenance activities. The position is of primary importance for the maximization of shop productivity at an optimal cost and the highest quality levels.

Requirements:

  • High School or GED diploma required
  • 3 years industrial mechanical experience
  • Ability to use technical manuals to troubleshoot equipment performance issues
  • Ability to read and utilize prints and schematics to troubleshoot, disassemble, and assemble various equipment
  • Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to take precise measurements
  • Knowledge of various sealing devices and fittings: application, function, and installation
  • Demonstrated ability to perform proper lubrication of equipment including procedures and understanding of different lubricants
  • Ability to replace bearings and rebuild gear drives
  • Ability to fabricate various items

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the proper mechanical performance and operation of all equipment within the Electric Arc Furnace, Argon Oxygen Decarburization, Emission Control System, Ladle Treatment Station, and Continuous Casting machine.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities.
  • Maintain the functionality of facilities within the Melt Shop area.
  • Assemble, install and maintain equipment as required.
  • Provide technical assistance when problems are encountered.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers as needed to diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to resolve them.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to complete projects within specified timeline.
  • Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
  • Support Operations as needed to meet business objectives.
  • Support implementation of Energy Control Procedures (ECP).
  • Maintain environmental and safety compliance requirements.
  • Identify safety hazards and opportunities for improvement in the safety.
  • Identify environmental opportunities for improvement.
  • Any other activities that may be required, or requested, to support the business.
  • Available to work shift

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs and ramps) same as ability to walk long distances and demonstrate good balance on uneven terrain or maneuvering obstacles
  • Ability to withstand exposure to elevated ambient temperature for extended periods of time
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, dust and asphalt
  • Must be able to work in a high noise environment where the use of hearing protection is required
  • Ability to frequently use hand or fingers to handle or feel objects/materials
  • Ability to work in areas with strong magnetic fields
  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to communicate utilizing radios, phones and/or intercom systems
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. utilizing proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to safely use power and hand tools
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment for tasks and diagnostic purposes, including overhead cranes.
