Industrial Maintenance Technician - Job Description

We are a full-service supplier, from design to extrusion to fabrication, all under one roof. We are committed to investment in people, technology, and building customer relationships. We are looking for an Industrial Maintenance Technician at our Hamden CT facility to continue to support our manufacturing operations and maintain our facility and its systems. This is a Steel Workers Union position.

This position reports to the Director of Facility Operations at our building in Hamden CT. Standard work hours are 6:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday. Overtime is on Fridays. There are times where work is needed to be performed through lunch and breaks to get machines up and operational. The break or lunch will be taken once machines are running correctly. There are times where work is needed to be performed outside of these normal business hours and the expectation is that the maintenance department will do the required hours and work to complete the necessary tasks. Almost all work done will be completed indoors but the maintenance department is required to maintain the exterior of the building and all company land and property.

This position is union hourly with overtime and covered by the Steelworks Union contract. Benefits can be discussed upon a phone or in person interview.

Experience:

  • Programmable logic controllers: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Mechanical knowledge: 5 years (Preferred)
  • 480V 3 Phase industrial electrical. (Preferred)
  • General industrial building maintenance: 5 years


Job Responsibilities:

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation and troubleshoots mechanical, electrical or hydraulic systems.
  • Dismantles machinery and removes/replaces defective parts.
  • Determines changes in requirements of parts by inspecting and measuring them with various instruments.
  • This job requires knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, pneumatics, electrical 24 volts—480 volts, stick, Tig and mig welding, PLC Knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with overhead cranes is a plus.
  • Must be able to work in high locations using ladders, scissor lift.
  • Experience with fork truck and side loaders is a plus.
  • Must be able to respond to after hour calls for boiler service calls or emergency facility issues that may arise before or after normal work hours.
  • Maintains inventories of equipment parts and supplies by checking stock or doing inventory counts.
  • Trains production workers on routine preventive maintenance.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information to co-workers, supervisors and management by answering questions, information requests and attends meetings.
  • Prepares maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends and documents said data and work performed.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with company procedures and rules and safety regulations.
  • At times, will work in hot, cold, wet, or confined spaces and will be exposed to or work with or around chemicals and processes that are necessary to manufacture products for the architectural building industry.
  • Ability to operate machinery and technical equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical, hydraulic or fluid system maintenance
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to work overtime on short notice including Friday and Saturday as necessary.
  • Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude and training in or on the job exposure to mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.

All levels of experience in building and facilities maintenance will be considered for this position but schooling, certifications or training in similar field is a plus.
