Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Industrial Hygiene Technicain/Scientist is responsible for executing environmental studies and providing analysis to support project decision-making. This position conducts fieldwork, interprets data, and prepares comprehensive reports for clients and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct industrial hygiene assessments to evaluate occupational exposures to chemical, physical, and biological hazards across a variety of client sites.
  • Perform asbestos-containing materials (ACM) inspections, bulk sampling, and abatement monitoring in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., AHERA, NESHAP).
  • Complete lead-based paint inspections and risk assessments, including XRF testing, dust wipe sampling, and development of abatement or management recommendations.
  • Execute indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, including evaluation of ventilation systems, moisture intrusion, mold concerns, and airborne contaminants.
  • Develop and implement air monitoring strategies, including personal and area sampling for particulates, VOCs, metals, and other hazardous substances.
  • Interpret laboratory analytical results and prepare clear, concise technical reports outlining findings, exposure risks, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Travel to client sites as needed (up to 50%), including occasional overnight travel, to support field investigations, assessments, and project oversight.
  • Provide on-site support during remediation and abatement activities, including oversight, air monitoring, and clearance sampling.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards, including OSHA, EPA, and state-specific requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to present findings, explain risks, and recommend solutions.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.
  • Maintain and calibrate field instrumentation, ensuring proper operation and adherence to QA/QC procedures.
  • Stay current with evolving industrial hygiene practices, regulations, and emerging contaminants of concern.
  • Maintain project files, logs, and data sets.
  • Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and consultants
  • Achieve or exceed budgets individual utilization targets.
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures.
  • Ensure projects comply with ISO standards.

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, or related field.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and fieldwork methods.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in GIS software.
  • Good communication and technical writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to maintain required certifications
