The Industrial Hygiene Consultant in Public Health Preparedness and Response supports statewide public health emergency readiness by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental hazards that may emerge during terrorist events, disease outbreaks, or natural disasters. The position provides technical assistance to statewide preparedness partners and operates with substantial independence in assessing and addressing environmental threats.
Work involves applying industrial hygiene practices to protect responders and the public during emergency situations and ensuring coordinated hazard‑related support for public health response agencies. The role functions within a dynamic, all‑hazards emergency preparedness context requiring strong self‑motivation and sound professional judgment.

Public Health Preparedness and Response (PHP&R) is the branch of the North Carolina Division of Public Health (DPH) within DHHS that monitors and strengthens the abilities of our public health and healthcare systems to protect the public health in disaster situations such as disease epidemics, chemical and radiological releases, severe weather and natural disasters.

Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety & health, biology, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in industrial hygiene inspections
