($98,857 annually)

Capstone is hiring a Fire Apparatus Engineer (FAE)/EMT for an Industrial Fire Operation in Thousand Oaks, California. We are interested in individuals that express a passion for firefighting, hazmat, rescue and patient care combined with the drive to succeed and deliver high-quality service.


Industrial Fire Apparatus Engineers/EMTs, under direct supervision, trains for and participates in duties and related responsibilities of an emergency and/or hazardous nature in fire suppression and emergency operations within an industrial facility, responds to alarms and other emergency calls to protect life and property; drives, operates and maintains fire apparatus and equipment. Although firefighting and rescue work are the most difficult and responsible areas of activity, the major portion of time is spent learning and obtaining familiarity with the campus and it’sfunctions, drilling and studying methods, techniques, and ICSorganization, additionally participate in routine duties of the care and maintenance of customer property and equipment.  The FAE reports directly to the Fire Captain.


This position is based on a 56 hour per week schedule on a 48/96 rotation.  This is considered a safety sensitive position and is subject to both the Company’s and the Client’s Industrial Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing. 

Minimum Required Qualifications:  

  • Valid Commercial Class B Driver’s License
  • Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate 
  • Must possess County, State and/or National EMT-B credentials 
  • Must possess AHA CPR/AED credentials or equivalent.
  • State, IFSAC, or PROBOARD Firefighter 1 certification.
  • State, IFSAC, or PROBOARD Driver Operator – Pumper (NFPA 1002) or equivalency
  • State, IFSAC, or PROBOARD Hazardous Materials Operations
  • Three (3) years full-time prior fire service experience, with at least one year as anEngineer/ Apparatus Operator
  • FEMA IS-100, 200, 700, and 800

Desired Qualifications:

  • Hazardous Materials Technician Specialist (state, IFSAC, or PROBOARD)
  • Confined Space Rescue Technician (state, IFSAC, or PROBOARD)
  • Trench Rescue (NFPA 1006)
  • Swiftwater Rescue (NFPA 1006)
  • State, IFSAC, or PROBOARD Firefighter 2
  • NFPA 600, Industrial Fire Brigade
  • State, IFSAC, or PROBOARD Driver Operator – Mobile Water Supply
  • California SFM Driver Operator 1A & B

Responsibilities:  

  • Responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls by driving assigned automotive equipment or fire apparatus to the required location.
  • Drives,operates and maintains various types of firefighting and suppression apparatus and equipment, including but not limited to pumping and ladder equipment and ground monitors.
  • Training personnel in the operation and maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment.
  • Quickly follows established Company procedures when responding to emergencies as well as instructions given at the emergency scene. 
  • Correctly and promptly uses all relevant apparatus, tools, and equipment. 
  • Remains calm and poised in all emergency situations and gains rapid control over the problem at hand. 
  • Administers first aid to injured parties at their appropriate level of training. 
  • Quickly analyzes situations where life safety is threatened and applies the correct treatment. 
  • Safely operates Company vehicles, and equipment as directed. 
  • Assists in the maintenance of fire and rescue apparatus, tools, and equipment keeping such apparatus, tools, and equipment in good operating and safe condition by competently and efficiently performing maintenance and testing tasks. 
  • Keeps the company station and related grounds, facilities, and supplies in a clean, orderly and useable condition. 
  • Leads and contributes to ongoing training and exercises as assigned
  • Performs routine non-firefighting work tasks, such as working on Company records,online training and records, time records, and other related administrativework. 
  • Functions satisfactorily as a team member of a fire company at any emergency or non-emergency scene and willingly accept their share of the work required
  • Performs as a secondary team/ task leader when needed or directed by a Fire Officer
  • Able to meet the physical requirements required to perform firefighting and rescue tasks. 
  • Remains skilled in and properly applies modern fire suppression tactics, methods, and procedures at training drills and emergency Incidents. 
  • Projects a positive attitude and image to the client as a fire service professional to meet the client’s needs. 
  • Works effectively in following policies and procedures.

The selection process for this position will include a resume review, practical exam to include apparatus basictechnical knowledge, DMV Walk Around, driving and pumping evolutions, and oral interview/ examA written exam may be added, depending on the number of applicants that may include hydraulics calculations, firefighting and EMS general knowledge and Amgen open-source information.
