Job Description

PerkinElmer is looking for an experienced Industrial Engineer with a strong mechanical engineering foundation to drive lean transformation, workstation and cell design, and jig/fixture/tooling development across our analytical instruments manufacturing operations. The role combines classical industrial engineering (standard work, line balancing, time studies, layout) with hands-on mechanical design of production tooling and test hardware. The successful candidate is equally comfortable in CAD, at the machine shop, and on the factory floor leading a kaizen event, and will be a key contributor to productivity, quality, and capacity programmes across the site and the wider regional network.

Responsibilities

  • Process & Workstation Design – Design, specify, and deploy assembly and test workstations, cells, and lines – including layout, ergonomics, material presentation, point-of-use tooling, and error-proofing (poka-yoke).
  • Jig & Fixture Development – Own the full lifecycle of jigs, fixtures, and tooling: requirements capture, concept design, detailed design, build (in-house or via suppliers), validation, and sustaining engineering.
  • Lean & Continuous Improvement – Lead kaizen events and CI projects targeting safety, quality, delivery, and cost; establish and improve standard work; drive measurable reductions in cycle time, WIP, defects, and floor space.
  • Test Solutions – Define and implement testing solutions for sub-assembly and final product test, working with quality and R&D to ensure test coverage, repeatability (GR&R), and cycle-time targets are met.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) – Represent manufacturing in NPI: design-for-manufacture/assembly (DFM/DFA) reviews, process FMEAs, line readiness, tooling and test readiness, and ramp support.
  • Data & Documentation – Develop and maintain routings, standard times, work instructions, control plans, and process documentation; use data (OEE, FPY, cycle time) to prioritise and verify improvements.
  • Cross-Site Collaboration – Share best practice and standardise processes, tooling, and test approaches across the regional manufacturing network (CN / MY / SG); support line transfers between sites.
  • EHS & Compliance – Ensure all processes, tooling, and equipment meet safety, ESD, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 9001/13485 as applicable, machine safety standards).
