Position Title: Industrial Engineer

Reporting Structure: Director of Engineering/Director of Distribution

Scope of Position

The Industrial Engineer leads process evaluation, warehouse design, engineering analysis, and procurement activities to support Expeditors’ distribution network. This role drives consistency, scalability, and efficiency across facilities through data-driven design, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position partners closely with Operations, IT, and leadership to deliver high-quality, modern warehouse solutions that optimize performance and support customer growth.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency, productivity, and cost control across existing warehouse operations
  • Evaluate and design optimal facility layouts, storage configurations, process workflows, labor models, and material handling equipment solutions for both new and existing warehouses
  • Lead engineering analysis, design execution, and procurement efforts for new facility start-ups and network expansions
  • Develop and present data-driven recommendations and project deliverables to internal stakeholders and leadership
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to establish, maintain, and elevate Expeditors’ warehouse design and operational standards, ensuring consistency and scalability across the network
  • Support customer solutions by developing detailed engineering responses, including facility layouts, process flows, and infrastructure requirements
  • Disseminate best practices and standardized processes across assigned geographic regions
  • Evaluate emerging warehouse technologies and automation solutions; assess applicability and lead implementation of approved initiatives

Qualifications

Qualifications, Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 1–4 years of relevant industry experience in warehouse, distribution, or supply chain environments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely across all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and OneNote
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%
