The Design School in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at ASU invites applications for part-time Industrial Design Faculty Associate appointments for Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027 to teach undergraduate courses. Specializations may include sketching, prototyping, desgin research, industrial manufacturing and technology, user experience, human factors and ergonimics, product branding, design management, product design principles and design methodologies.
The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person or online courses, prepare course materials, evaluate student work, and assist students. Faculty Associates positions are one semester, non-benefits eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed .40 FTE.
The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load. Individuals employed as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University.
Faculty Associate assignments are paid $1,500-$2,000 per credit hour, depending on the component, over the length of the session.
Anticipated start date is: Fall 2026, Spring 2027 Session A, B, or C
Essential Duties:
Prepare and deliver course content, including lectures, exercises, and critiques.
Evaluate student work and provide timely feedback.
Assist students through office hours, seminars, or online forums.
Support course administration as needed (e.g., syllabus preparation, coordination with teaching assistants).
Teach in one or more of the following modalities: in person, online, or hybrid.
Working Environment:
The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person or online courses:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled classroom setting, subject to extended periods of standing, lecturing, and facilitating classroom activities
Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
Occasional activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
Regular use of standard office equipment, including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design
At least two (2) years of professional Industrial Design experience
Desired Qualifications:
Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
Demonstrated knowledge of design methodologies and professional practice.
