Job Description

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking seasonal/temporary Facility Monitors to work in our facilities to support programs and facility operations. Facilities include all community centers and Arlington Public School Gymnasiums in which programs such as youth basketball, adult sport drop in, teen activities, and skate nights occur. Additionally, facility monitors may have the opportunity to work at our community centers’ front desk operations.

Major Job Duties:

  • Providing excellent customer service and information to customers in person, by email, and by phone;
  • Setting up and breaking down rooms and gymnasiums for programs and events;
  • Responding to emergency situations and preparing incident reports;
  • Assisting with the evacuation of and emergency response at facilities as assigned;
  • Submitting and reporting game scores;
  • Using RecTrac to accept payments, process reservations, and assist patrons with registration and scheduling requests;
  • Following all funds handling policies and procedures;
  • Participating in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and workshops as required by the position;
  • Providing customers with information and referrals regarding current Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) programs; and
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge of recreational activities, can effectively communicate, demonstrate problem solving skills, take the initiative to help others, follow all necessary policies and procedures, and be able to perform under pressure. This position will be asked to work alone at times and will he be held accountable for delegated tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Customer service experience;
  • Funds handling experience; and/or
  • Sports rules knowledge (e.g. basketball).

Special Requirements

Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It will include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Certifications: Employees must possess active First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications or have the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

Work Environment: This position will require wearing a uniform to perform work related duties as well as extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting light to very heavy objects and equipment, weighing up to 50 pounds.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Part time, variable shifts including early mornings and evenings. Some weekend shifts are required.

Work Location: Various Arlington County Parks, Community & Fitness Centers, and/or Arlington Public School locations.
