Job Description

Position will work with Archaeologist and Curatorial staff on the cataloguing of collection returning to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau NHP from Bishop Museum. Cataloguing is the first step in documenting what is in the collection and whether it is appropriate to accession into the permanent park collection. Work will be done in the park curatorial facility. Much of the work will be done independently and under the guidance of the archaeologist and museum curator.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizing, analyzing, and documenting material from a 1960's archaeological excavation.
  • Working with cultural resource specialists to sort through and catalog material.

Marginal Duties

  • Participate in other park cultural and natural resource activities

Required Qualifications

  • Attention to detail, good handwriting, ability to keep track of items and stay organized.
  • Driver's license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest or study in archaeology or museum science.

General Physical Requirements

  • Able to understand, adhere to, and communicate with others regarding hazards, procedures, and safety policies.
  • Able to independently manage known medical conditions with the resources available throughout the position or program.
  • Able to wear all required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, N95 or other approved face mask or shield, and appropriate footwear.
  • Able to refrain from behaviors and actions that disrupt the work and safety of others.
  • Able to cooperate with others to complete daily group tasks, responsibilities, and project work under potentially difficult conditions, variable daily routines, and with limited personal time.
  • Able to self-regulate or co-regulate emotions and actions when distressed or uncomfortable, with or without the support of others.
  • Able to self-manage outdoor and environmental exposure (e.g., temperature, wind, sun, etc.) in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Able to maintain adequate nutrition and hydration throughout program time.
  • If using prescription medications, able to self-administer medications by following the prescribed dosage, usage, and timing without supervisor assistance. If prescription medication is administered via injection, able to self-administer the injection.

  • Work schedules and projects may change on short notice or be ambiguous.
  • Work settings require the ability to positively interact with people of varying perspectives.
  • Work settings may be located in natural environments and regionally significant locations that require respect for the land and local peoples.

Compensation

$600 weekly living allowance, paid bi-weekly

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

Our History:

Here in Lower South Carolina, your local Goodwill has been building better communities through the power of work since the 1970s. In 1974, a small group of local citizens raised concerns over the lack of opportunities for people with disabilities in the Charleston area. After five years of endless meetings and small fundraising activities, the group received a charter from Goodwill Industries International and the agency officially opened its doors on October 16, 1979, with the name Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina, Inc.

Since its inception, your local Goodwill has continued to provide services to individuals, businesses and organizations throughout the South Carolina.
