Job Description

This position will assist the GIS Manager, Fort Leavenworth Natural Resources Specialist and Cultural Resources Specialist in accomplishing goals set forth in the Fort’s Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan and Integrated Cultural Resources Plan. Meeting these goals will require work, both digitally and in the field, on the 3,500 acres of unimproved lands and on the largest inventory of pre-1919 historic quarters and government buildings in the Army. The latter will include managing the documentation and Section 106 compliance for these structures, overseeing 53 archeological sites, curating artifacts from pre-Columbus period and the era of Westward Expansion at 3 museums and managing limited on-going NAGPRA actions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Data compilation, analysis and mapping will be done. Some mapping projects may be done for or in conjunction with the Frontier Army Museum. GIS mapping and data collection and integration will be done using ArcGIS PRO and AutoCAD. Projects will include habitat layers and meta data with plant and wildlife communities for monarch butterflies and milkweed, various reptile and amphibian species and small mammals such as flying squirrels. Other projects may include integrating LIDAR technology and obtaining LIDAR data in support of improved Historic structures database and geo-rectifying historic map data to existing roads and trails.

Marginal Duties

The GIS Resource position may help conduct environmental education programs for K-6 graders and middle schoolers and speak to adult audiences about the natural and cultural resources on Post.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge and experience working with ARC-GIS and AutoCAD and Lidar

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work independently; Adaptability to change focus as required by local conditions

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

Member is responsible for finding own living arrangements in the area.

Compensation

  • Living Allowance: $650/week
  • Relocation Allowance: $1,100 (paid once)

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

Here in Lower South Carolina, your local Goodwill has been building better communities through the power of work since the 1970s. In 1974, a small group of local citizens raised concerns over the lack of opportunities for people with disabilities in the Charleston area.
