Fixed term MAT leave contract to 31 December 2027
We are seeking an Indirect Tax Specialist to join our Finance team in Springvale on a MAT Leave contract. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with tax regulations, optimizing tax strategies, and supporting business operations across the Australasian region.
As an Indirect Tax Specialist, you will play a crucial role in navigating complex tax landscapes, contributing to the financial health and sustainability of Essity. Your expertise will support flexible work practices and adaptability to changing business needs.
As the go-to person for indirect tax, you'll manage indirect tax filings for Australia and New Zealand. You will also play a key role in tax effect accounting, reviewing ledger accounts, and supporting tax-related decisions and be exposed to the full in-house tax function.

Ensure accurate and timely filing of all indirect tax returns (GST, Fringe Benefits Tax, payroll tax, etc.).
Prepare supporting materials for all indirect tax filings.
Manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
Handle tax effect accounting and quarterly global reporting.
Administer multiple indirect tax groups.
Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and post journals.
Assist in the preparation of tax disclosures.
Develop and implement tax-efficient strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
Provide tax advice on business transactions and restructurings.
Collaborate with local and global finance and legal teams to align tax strategies with business objectives.
Identify and mitigate tax risks through robust internal controls and processes.
Conduct regular reviews of indirect tax processes to ensure efficiency and compliance.
Implement best practices for tax risk management.
Work closely with business units to provide tax insights and support decision-making.
Advise on the indirect tax implications of new projects and initiatives.
Foster strong relationships with external tax advisors and regulatory bodies.
You bring at least 5 years of experience in indirect tax, ideally within FMCG. You also have:
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
A CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification.
Strong knowledge of Australian & New Zealand tax laws, with an understanding of NZ indirect tax.
Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
A can-do attitude, willing to be hands-on to achieve objectives.
The ability to work independently and collaborate within a team.
Experience with international tax and cross-border transactions, tax software and ERP systems, or working in a multinational corporation would be favorable.
