Indirect Tax Manager

Yamaha Motor Finance Corporation (YMFC) is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to lead all aspects of sales and use tax compliance and outsourced property tax compliance for its finance, leasing, and protection products businesses. This role serves as a key tax resource supporting Yamaha leasing operations and Yamaha Extended Service operations while ensuring compliance with multi-state tax requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and supervise indirect tax compliance staff responsible for sales, use, and property tax compliance activities.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of multi-state sales and use tax returns for leasing and Yamaha Extended Service operations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and local tax regulations while maintaining accuracy and strong internal controls.
  • Partner with accounting, leasing operations, extended services teams, and external vendors to address indirect tax matters and improve compliance processes.
  • Manage external service providers responsible for preparing and filing property tax returns and coordinating timely property tax payments.
  • Oversee the Company's property tax compliance requirements and identify opportunities to enhance outsourced compliance processes.
  • Determine appropriate sales and use tax treatment for leasing and extended service arrangements, including distinctions between operating leases and finance/conditional sales-type leases.
  • Manage customer exemption certificate processes and ensure proper documentation is obtained, maintained, and retained.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and best practices across tax-related systems and workflows.
  • Support tax compliance and operational initiatives involving Odessa, Vertex, Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365), and other proprietary YMFUS systems.
  • Maintain a strong focus on audit readiness, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or a related field.
  • 6-8 years of accounting and sales tax compliance experience.
  • 1-3 years of leadership or people management experience.
  • Experience working in a multi-state tax environment.
  • Strong knowledge of sales and use tax compliance and indirect tax regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical, data mining, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with sales tax automation tools such as Vertex.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation.
  • Big 4 or large regional public accounting firm experience.
  • Experience in financial services, consumer finance, automotive leasing, or a related industry.
  • Experience with leasing platforms such as Odessa.
  • Experience supporting extended service or warranty business operations.
  • Familiarity with SAP and Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).

Pay:

The pay range for this position is $90,000 - $106,000 per year. Yamaha intends to offer the selected candidate base pay dependent on job-related experience. Base pay is part of Yamaha's Total Reward Program; our Talent Acquisition Team will share more details as candidates progress through the Recruiting Process.
